H-322 is way too fast for the 22-250. You should try 4895, 4064, H-380 or H-414.

I have to agree with GSF here in that H322 has much too fast a burning rate to be a good choice in the 22-250 Remington. Not that it could not be done, but it would not be an ideal powder choice. The 26th edition of the Hodgdon Reloading Manual shows the following for H322 using 52 grain bullets in a 22-250 Remington: starting load 29 grains / 3379 fps maximum load 31 grains / 3498 fps While I am sure H322 works wonderfully well in your 22BR, in a 22-250 you are going to wind up with a whole lot of empty case volume and you cannot possible utilize the velocity potential of the cartridge. My favorite powders for the 22-250 Remington are H 4895, Varget, and N 140. R F

Williamhill Here is a 22-250 load that has geen working well for me since 1978. I worked it up in a Weatherby Mk V Varmintmaster and presently shoot it in a Savage 112 w/ varmint weight factory barrel. I have shot 3 in groups at 300 measured yards in both rifles on calm days. It has always been a dynamite ground squirel load. 60 gr Hornady spire point 34.3 gr IMR 3031 CCI 200 primer W-W brass 3031 is not usually known as one of the top powders for the 22-250, but I developed this load before I knew that. Even though I have a whole sheet of velocity readings with a Speer 55 gr soft point and H 380 from April 94, it appears that I have never clocked my favorite load. I knew the trajectory curve and the rifle was zeroed at 300 yd before I bought the Chrony. I guess I never thought I needed to know what the Chrony thought of it. I like the trajectory of the 60 gr between 200 and 400 yd as apposed to that of the 50 and 52 grain bullets, even though it starts at a slower velocity. Speaking of loads for the 22-250, I just bought Winchester Model 70 Stealth 22-250. It has a 1 in 14 twist rate (limits me to somewhat light bullets I suppose). I'm looking for some input on bullets and powder before I start working up a load. Here are my requirements: 1. Must be fast 2. Must be accurate at 200-400 yds 3. Must cause max damage to groundhogs/small rodents (i.e. red mist cloud and instant gut pile) Any starting suggestions?

To respond to the post from Jethro, I would suggest most any good varmint bullet with H 4895, Varget, or N 140. I have killed a cajillion varmints with the plain Jane 50 grain Sierra over a stiff load of H 4895 in several 22-250's. But, for whatever reasons, I am currently using the Hornady V-Max bullets in the three that are in my safe right now. Two of them prefer the 55 grain V-Max over H 4895, while the third shoots clearly best with the 50 grain V-Max over Varget or N 140. Any of those combinations will readily meet your stated requirements. Good Luck

Jethro Both of the rifles I mentioned in my previous post are equiped with 1 in 14 in barrels. The Hornady 60 gr spire point works well at that twist rate. But in my rifle the 60 gr Hornady V-max is understabilized. It keyholes through the target at 100 yd. Idaho Shooter

How are the Blitzkings, V-Max, Ballistic Tips, etc. on impact?
