Hello Guys. First time on the site and wondered what everyones view is on powder scales. Looking for a new set and wondering which scale is the best for weighing consistently (as well as price of course).

for a mechanical beam scale buy one with 3 poise on the beam, it is a great safety factor. my personal favorite is rcbs, but hornady, redding, dillon is fine if there is 3 poise on the beam. one poise is for 0.1 grain increments, one for 1 grain increments, and one for 5 grain increments. with a 2 poise beam one notch out of place is 1 grain difference, seeing all three poise in place correctly is easier.

Welcome to the site Tommo...

orlop covered it pretty well for the mechanical scales. It depends on what and how much you are reloading I guess...

I bought the RCBS Chargemaster 1500 combo. It's a dispenser and digital scale in one unit and is accurate to .1 grains. I load no more then 60 or so rounds at a sitting and it has been simply excellent.. I've been getting VERY consistent velocities from my 338-378 Wby and am just starting on reloading for my '06...

I use the RCBS 10-10 check ebay as Ohaus makes the RCBS scale and you can find a Ohaus or Lyman M5 used for about 1/2 price of the RCBS $70-$80

Cheers guys
I mainly load 243 win and 222 rem for deer here in New Zealand. The RCBS 10 10 sounds like a good option and the three poise beam makes sense from a safety perspective

If you are unable to locate a 10-10 or M-5 at a reasonable price, the RCBS 505 is a three poise scale of comparable quality (Ohaus) at a reasonable price. The 10-10 has a 1000 gr. capacity versus 500 gr.
