Ive read a fair bit on the subject of tuning the barrel harmonics with different devices including adjustable weights and rubber slievs that can slide up and down barrel to find sweet spot in barrel for optimum acuracy of a given load, have noticed a tightning of groups using heavy duty rubber bands around barrel of my Blaser Lrs2 in 308, Has anyone else any news on subject, Paul T, Ireland.

If you were to thread your barrel and install a nut that you could move up and down the threads to change the nodes, it would be possible to hit a particular "sweet spot" for a given load, where, the gun would group amazingly well for that load, under the exact conditions. However, as the conditions change as the barrel heats and cools, the expanding and contracting of the steel would also change the harmonics, so you would be forever chasing the sweet spot me thinks. That's what the BOSS was supposed to do.

Paul, I think that was about the same answer that you got on BR.com. Butch

Malm, You mention the Boss is that a device simler to a device called a Deresanator? m thanks Paul T.

The BOSS is threaded on the muzzle of Brownings and is tuned by turning it in and out, and the deresonator is made of rubber and slips over the barrel and looks like big old knot on a tree branch. Becareful how you use the deresonator, I hear that hospital emergency rooms are beginning to see an increase of cases involving these rubbery devices. I guess in some parts of the country the term "screw that" is seen as a challenge...

I can say that an adjustable weight does work. A friend makes an adjustable brake that is patented a lot quieter than a Boss. In fact he had a law suit against Browning and they settled. I have one on a 6.5/06 I built and can dial it in for different length bullets. You can dial it in for a particular load and then for another weight bullet. The end of the barrel and brake are marked like a micrometer or turrent scope knob. If you keep your notes it is very repeatable. Shot strings and heat doesn't effect this. Yes, a big nut threaded on the end of a barrel with a set screw to hold it would work. Don

Hey Paul T, Since you can precisely adjust the rifle to hit a Harmonic Node using the never improved upon Creighton Audette Load Development Method and fine tune it by varying the Seating Depth, there is absolutely no need for any device being hung on the barrel. Were you planning to switch over to Factory Ammo where the devices can help you tune them in?

Re, Hotcore as i saw an improvement using a heavy duty band around barrel to dampen vibration with my loaded ammo was just curious on harmonics subject, I doint shoot any factory ammo in 308, I find the barrel harmonics subject very interesting & how it can help tighten up groups in my case at 300y down to 1.25 inch with factory rifle in calm conditions but this was a small test which i will repeat on a larger scale. paul T.

Hey Paul, I understand. A few of my buddies have the BOSS systems on their rifles and once they find the correct spot, they do shoot right well. I can see where the "Deresonator" (or whatever it is called) would provide the same type of harmonic change. Only problem I would see is getting it adjusted properly for the Load you are using. If it is tight enough to stay in one place, it would be difficult to move on the barrel. Or if it is easy to move, then it might not want to stay put when casing and uncasing the rifle. Here is a Barrel Stabilizer that you might find interesting or give you some additional ideas. Best of luck to you.
