Bedding?

My dad told me once that if you're gonna kill a rattler with a chainsaw, use the top of the bar.

The SMLE had a cork packing between the barrel and the fore-end. Not the full barrel channel I think. This would dampen barrel vibration and I am told that a 'properly' packed SMLE was a very accurate long range rifle. I don't know what other rifles had it. (The No.4 might have had it too). I suppose 'bedding' would be correct - it's just a flexible, vibration absorbing bedding? Cork is not the only medium used. Someone said that nowdays we have filler foam.

Hope this helps.
