New load-243 win. 85 g sierra hpbt AA4350.
Loaded 2 each 42/42.3/42.6/43/43.3/43.6/44.
The 43grain shot best pair abot 1.5" @200yards. The others were all 2.5+"
Loaded up 5 each of 42.9/43/43.1. At 200 yards the 42.9 looked best but a 2.5" group.
Measured max oal of rifle as 2.80" Rem.700 vls.
Loaded up 3 each of 42.9 but col. of 2.79/2.78/2.77/2.76/2.75/2.685.
They were all disappointing until the 2.685 which worked 0.5"at 200 yards.
That was an old col. that I'd found previously with 41.5 of h414 to work well.
So ...does that optimal col. hold good with that bullet in that rifle regardless of the amount or type of powder?
If I try some of those other charges with that oal will they perform a lot better?
If I use a similar wt./length bullet of different brand will that require a totally different seating depth?
Is seating depth, more, less or of equal importance to powder choice/charge weight?
If I chrono a good combination at say 3100 can I develop a new load with a different powder to do 3100 and expect equal accuracey, with the same col.?
