powder and bullet combos? I've got a factory Win M70 SS that has been a real PAIN (oh, my nose) to get to group. Using 92.5 of RE 22 with SMK 175s and Berger 175s seated wwaaaay out to touch the lands prints about .700" for a 3-shot group. But 96.5 of RE 22 with Hornady 165 SSTs printed 2.280. AAHHH. Short of pitching the BBL and getting a custom reamer to get rid of the factory fat, what's a shooter to do???

Try 178gr A-Max's and 93 to 96gr of RL25 or Retumbo..If accuracy is what you're looking for try 80 to 83gr of RL25 or Retumbo with a 240gr MK....They will be slow....Around 2750 to 2800.

I'm trying to put together a hunting round that is magazine length and not more than a 175 grain bullet. My load testing was started with match bullets seated waaaaaaay out to touch the lands. And the result was as expected - sub MOA 3 shot groups. But loading the 165 SSTs at magazine length allows a jump some were on the order of .110 to the lands. The result was a 2"+ group, about similar to factory loaded 150s. So, has anyone found a work-around?

I bought a Mod 70 Super Grade last summer. It to has a long throat. Bought a box of Remington factory loads with the 150 gr. Sirroco, it shot patterns instead of groups. Any how I needed the brass so I used those to breakin the barrel. Then the reloading began, measured OAL and mine to has a long throat. Had to load for magazine length. Started with RL-22 and stuck with it. Tried several different bullets and finally wound up with 165gr. Partion, it shoots minute of angle at 300yds and accounted for two deer last year. [Big Grin]
Good Luck

Rooster, the 150s shoot a shot pattern as well and don't group. I'll see about the Partitions. What has your powder charge?

Got any buddy's with swift a-frames. They took my .270 wby from avg to AWESOME. Also a possible try might be 180 partitions in semi spitzer or regular version.

Have you tried loading deeper? I see so many people these days obsessed with touching the lands. One guys cartridges was so fragile, you didn't want to drop one or the bullet would fall out. When I see them do that, I don't think they are getting a good seal since there necks and all are so souty. I tried the same with another 300RUM, I had, loaded at 3.7" COL and had very finicky results. So I started loading down to 3.6" or less and found more consistent results with different powders and all. Since then, I had a new barrel put on and the throat set just right to get rid of that problem.

I have a Rem Sendero26" barrel It seem to like the heavier bullets just about any 180 gr Ive tried seems to work good.the best is Nos Baltip with 112Gr AA8700 COL 3.700 CCI 250 Mag Pr.About 3390 fps But has pretty tough recoil. Also h870 Does well to 109 gr.I think yours will probably like the Heavy bullets to.

You're probably right about the heavy bullets - it's hard to get around a 1 in 10 twist BBL. Most 10 twists in any .30 shoot heavier bullets better. But, one of the issues here is recoil. I'll have to keep working to see if there is some combination that will give OK results with the bullets seated magazine length. Alot of gunsmiths are putting 1 in 12 twists on 300 RUMs so lighter bullets shoot better. It'll probably end up this way here too. [Roll Eyes]
