What powder do most of you use reloading for a 308/7.62x51 gas gun with 147/150 gr bullets? I have reloaded for an AR10 and a 308 AR for several years and I just picked up a PTR91. Reloading for plinking ammo I loaded LC16 cases with 40 gr of IMR 4895 with a 147 gr fmj bullet. It seems to cycle ok and is fairly accurate. It has a port buffer on it so the body of the case doesn't get torn up but it likes to chew on the rims. IMR4895 has worked fairly well in my AR10 and 308 AR also.

Bofors/Norma developed 202 for 7,62 NATO and Sweden use HK G3/CG ak4.

Use what they were designed for; 4895 and W748; as for the 91, those will function with any load that produces enough pressure to operate the bolt; gas pressure is not germane as there is no gas port.
As you know, they are blow back, slightly delayed by the rollers. Quite violent. Fun.

Essentially a modern CETME, correct?
Slings Brass 50 feet, beats the crap out of it and makes it no joy to reload?

Yes. Different mfg of the same design. Mags may or may not interchange. Few years ago you could buy near-new alloy G3 mags for about 50 cents/per. At that price you can use them as targets after emptying.

Yes, slings brass. Already mentioned port buffer helps reduce brass cull rate. No real problem reloading ugly brass. Most dings iron out w/sizing. I don't waste time trying to remove the carbon resulting from chamber flutes. Finished product looks kinda ugly. Meh.

Roller-delayed blowback is more flexible with respect to reliably cycling reduced loads. An added benefit of down-loading is less bungered brass, flung shorter distances...like only halfway to first base.

Like DPCD said, fun. Especially with autosear and short barrel (HK51).

With the above mentioned reloads and some Malaysian 7.62 x 51 ammo it slings both out about 18 feet in the 1:30 position.
I was wondering if the 'pressure curve' would affect the cycling since the PTR91 doesn't have a normal gas port. My first experience with the delayed blowback roller action system.

42grs of IMR 4895 and a 150gr bullet is the most wide ranging 308 load I have ever used.
it's worked in M-14's, win model 100's,
FN-FAL's, AR-10's, and some heckler and Koch thingy the sis in law has.
shoots reasonably good in the bolt guns too.

With our ak4s some slings the brass 20y, some slightly forward, some at 90, some slightly backwards into the head of the next shooter. All of them cycles very well with most kinds of military ammo.

The reloads I listed throws them in about a 3 foot circle at about 18 feet and the Malaysian throws them in about a 4 foot circle at about 21 feet.

Steve, I’ve been a Varget guy for a long time. Have used it in short and long barreled bolt guns, M1As, HK clones and AR10s. Bullet weights from 147gr (pull bullets) to 190gr MK. For every day shooting I like the Sierra’s 150gr to 165gr Game kings. I find the price reasonable and superb accuracy! I’ve tried other powders that work great, but keep going back to 43gr to 46gr of Varget.

I have used Varget in one of my 308 AR's and it preforms very well, but in my AR10 I shoot only RL 12, I am on my last 4 lb jug now so within the next few years I'll have to look for a new load, maybe Varget or IMR 4895. I was concerned about the pressure curve for the PTR91 but it seems it doesn't matter that much with the delayed blowback roller action.

I have been using 45 grs Ball C2 in Lake City cases with Hornady 155 AMAX bullets. Works fine in my FNAR and Saiga, but the Saiga throws the cases pretty far so I might want to drop down a grain.

I think the military 7.62's use a powder equivalent to Ball C2 and 147-150 gr bullets.
