I'm considering upgrading to a Hornandy Progressive press. When reloading handgun ammo, how concerned are you when depriming and cleaning out the primer pocket? With rifle, I meticulously clean out the pocket. But with a progressive, the casing is already in the turret...

I consider this operation purely optional.....even with rifle cases.

I have had problems with my .45acp primers seating fully unless I scrup the carbon out of the primer pockect in a single stage press. I don't know about progressives.

Even my spell checker wants to replace Obama, it just doesn't have any suggestions.

Look at a Dillon if you are going to load very much. They are worth every penny they charge!

I run two 550B, great machines & the 650 maybe better, but they are getting pretty pricey. The LNL is a good machine, competes well w/ the 650 & does it for about $100 less. The Dillon no BS warranty is pretty nice, but my friend has had no problem when dealing w/ Hornady. Throw in 500 free bullets w/ the LNL, pretty nice deal.
FWIW, I rarely bother cleaning primer pockets on handgun ammo. If you really felt it needs be done, a univ depriming die & clean once every 4-5 reloads would keep things pretty clean.

I have loaded 10s of thousands of handgun rounds I don't think I have ever cleaned a primer pocket.

I wore out a Hornady Pro-7 (i.e. the LNL predecessor), bought second hand 23 years ago, and have recently replaced it with a Dillon XL650. I'm glad I did as the latter is much faster and has a more reliable priming system.
