7mm-08 Powder
What is the cleanest burning powder for 7mm-08 reloads for 120 and 140 grain bullets? My dad recommended IMR4350. What do you think?

Mine likes H4895 with 140's. I don't know if it's the cleanest burning or not. 4350 can be hard (time consuming) to measure due to the length of the grains.

In my 7-08, IMR4350 won't give top velocity until I load bullets in the 150-160 gr weight.

Faster powders like the aforementioned 4895 are better for the bullets you've chosen.

I'm quite fond of Speer's 130 gr boattail bullet. With IMR4320 and Re-15, I can safely approach 3000 fps with excellent accuracy. Both powders have short stick granules and meter well through my measure. This recipe is sudden death on deer and hogs here in Texas.

RL 15 is great stuff in both 7-08 and .308.

The cleanest burning powders are VihtaVuouri.

For 7mm/08 and 308 I prefer Varget or RL15. Both are relatively clean.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

Are the VihtaVuouri powders worth the extra cost? (in my area 50% higher than RL15)

Anyone use RL17?

Thanks!

With 140,s Varget most accurate, Rl19 fastest, H 335 and H34350 work too.

Rammag,
I just tried a RL17 load in my 25/06 yesterday.
It shot decently but not as well as the IMR4831 load that I have been using for about 10yrs.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

Jigger, that's my same experience too: you just can't beat IMR4831 in the .25-06 (nor Re-15 in the 7-08).

hay jigger, i thought Rammag was looking for 7MM-08 powder not 25-06.. 4831 is not good for a 7-08

I use H-4350 and 150/160 Nosler Partitions. I shoot the 150's with 46.4 grs and the 160's with 45.7 grs. CCI 200 primers. Both of these loads worked well in South Africa this March.

My best load was H4350 47.5 gr under a Barnes 140gr TSX. 2840 fps, extremely accurate. Is it the cleanest? I'm not sure, but it seems plenty clean to me!

Another vote for H4895. It is an extremely clean powder in my experience.
