While the usual rule is "longer is better" when it comes to OAL, I have found my 300 H&H likes it shorter.

My groups dramatically improved when I went from 3.600 to 3.515 with 200 grn bullets.

That "rule" comes from people who read and repeat a lot of nonsense but reload, experiment and shoot little. Most competant reloaders find the same as you.

Each rifle is different and has their won sweet spot on OAL. Which 200gr. bullet are you using? I am loading a Nosler 200gr. Partition at 3.666 OAL.in my Remington 721.
