I use the 120gr Sierra HPBT with great effect on antelope from a 257 Weatherby. I get through and through penetration, a large exit hole, and a large blood trail at ranges up to 300 yards. I can't see why your experience would be different with deer.

I'm surprised at the low responses a bit. I have used them a little out of a Roberts, but I gravitated to the Hornady 120 hp and am still using it out of my .25-06.
I think the stories of "bullet failures" from Sierra are exagurated to some degree. I used some 140gr GK out of my 7mm RM and got complete pass-throughs on the three deer I used it on. Totally jello'd the chest cavity, and exited. What more do you want?
My son took two deer with the sierrs 120 hpbt. A nice 8 pnt and a doe. Range was about 140yrds on the buck and 110 on the doe. Both deer were around 100 lbs. the sierra bullets preformed as they should have ending in two drop in your tracks kills. good shot placement
