Does anyone have a good load they would like to share.I've used RL15 and H4350 with fare results but the burn rates are either too fast with theRL15 or too slow with the H4350.
Is any one using a different powder with 250gr woodleighs in the 8x57.

I just got a box of the 250 gr Woodleighs yesterday. This will be my first time to try them, so I haven't done any load development yet. That said, I have had good luck with IMR-4350 with the 220 gr RN Woodleighs. 51.0 grs of IMR-4350 for 2402 fps average (chrono'd) with WLR primer in W-W brass. Std Dev = 10 fps. Extreme Spread = 36 fps. COL: 3.14" Remington Model 700 Classic with 24 inch barrel.

I have a 3rd edition Barnes manual that lists 8x57 load data for their 250 gr Original bullet. I don't have it handy at the moment. I think (but I'll check later and edit this post if need be) that they list 46.0 grs of IMR-4350 for around 2250 fps out of a 26" Shilen barrel.

Based on my experience with the 220 gr Woodleigh and IMR-4350, I'm going to start with that powder with the 250 gr bullets.

Also, Woodleigh's 2006 catalog states: "Our 250gr RN in .323†gives the 8x57 IS an excellent performance level on medium sized game. It can be comfortably loaded to 2250 fps in a Mauser 1898 and other more modern rifles." So, I think 2250 fps is a reasonable goal for velocity when working up my handloads.

I hope this is of some help....

Thanks Bob for the info.My loads with H4350 are right there,2250-2300fps out of 23.5"barrels.I guess I'll stick with the 4350 as it shows no presure signs at all.Accuracy is about the same with either powder,1.5"-1.75" at 100yds.I heard H414 was a good powder for this combo but I've never used it.Thanks again.

I'm loading these for a yugo 24/47 that I plan to keep at my cabin in AK.Just finished shaping, fitting, and bedding a Boyds JRS laminated stock for the old girl.It turned out better than I thought it would as it was far from a perfect fit.Its not as deep throated as the other mausers I've worked with so I expect to see presure sooner with this one.I set her up with Mojo ghost ring sights,Bold trigger, and a low swing safety.Feels light and fast in your hands, just what I want out there. We'll see how she shoots today. Thanks again for the load data.
