Between the two, I'd go with the old stanby 270. If were talking about deer, why not 7-08. More power than you need at 300yds and the "new" deer classic, although, agin, nothing wrong with the 270. capt david

Either is an ideal choice for the application described (as is the original .270), but of the 2, I would prefer the .270 WSM. For a scope, I would look at a Leupold VXII 2-7, VXII 3-9, or VXIII 2.5-8. The Abolts in WSM are actually nice, handy little rifles. More compact than the Winchester varieties, so in my opinion, a too large scope would offset the balance a bit. -Lou

I dont think there would be a whole lot of difference if going after whitetails, meaning either would be more than adequte. A few tangible differences are; better brass and ammo availability for the 270 larger magazine capacity in a 270 heavier bullets available for the 7mm Otherwise what one will do so will the other. I think the WSM's are here to stay, maybe not all of them, but the brass can be resized to fit whichever you like. Cant say the same for the SAUM though.

Uhhh, my first assumption is that you are asking about WSM's...either the .270WSM or the 7WSM. That is how I interpreted you question. IF that is the case, go with the .270WSM using a 140 or 150 bullet. If you meant what you actually asked: 270 vs. 7WSM, I'd agree whole heartedly with the previous responses...go with the good old .270. It is the first deer rifle caliber I bought and is still my favorite to this day despite the multitude of other calibers I have in my safe. I've killed over 200 deer with the .270 using 130 to 150 grain bullets out to 350 yards. Never lost one. However, a nice gentleman that I met per phone call that has reloaded/big game hunted for longer than I've been alive stated to me that 2 things have impressed him over the decades: #1: the Barnes Triple Shock bullet #2: the .270WSM. Now I don't know about you but I am a firm believer in mentors. Therefore, I take these statements to heart.

One is as good as the other, not a nickles worth of difference...I personally prefer the 270 WCF, but thats just preference.

Not in all cases or with all animals but to me all rounds (and for the most part shooters)are equal (within reason) to 300 yards... I'd be for going 270 twer it me. "GET TO THE HILL" Dogz
