Hi guys,
I'm reloading for 7mm RM and have 2 questions.
1. I have a whole lot of once fired brass with a head stamp "HP1", what are they?
2. After weighing the brass the HP1's are 40gr heavier than Norma brass, is this a big difference, and would it have a significant influence on the case capacity and
therefore pressure reloading them?

Cheers
Johan

Brass is 8X more dense than the avg powder.
40 grains of brass will take up the volume of 5 grains of powder.

I have never seen this extreme variation in brass volume/weight. I would expect that max loads would be 3 grains less that what might work with Norma brass. I am not familiar with the weight of norma brass in the 7mm Mag. You might want to list the weight of each here.
I can weigh my Federal and Winchester brass.

Hirtenburg is a brand that has been defunct here in Europe for at least fifteen years, for sale of sporting rifle ammunition, if not twenty or more.

I used to use Hirtenburg 6.5x54mm MS ammunition but then, all of a sudden, the brand disappeared.

It was good quality brass but in pistol calibre had issues with compatibility with US primers in certainly 45 ACP calibre.

It wasn't liked for practical pistol shooting in 45 ACP and in fact was thought that the composition of the brass was "soft" in that calibre certainly compared to US brass.

Checked the weight again
Norma: 223.2gr
HP1: 264.1gr
Winchester: 232.7gr

the Norma has a spent primer & the other 2 primer still intact. Doubt if it will make such a big difference?

I weighed some recent Remington for you.

Unprimed about 235 grains. With an unfired primer about 240 grains. So I guess that unfired primers weigh...five grains!

I doubt if the cap composition is more than a grain so if fired a fired primer is going to still be about four grains in weight.

This is Remington 7mm Remington Magnum brass, not nickel, and I'd guess about two to four years old if that.

Hope it helps.

Thanks guys,

Decided to go with Norma. They vary only 2-3 gr between cases. Also seems more practical!

I can't see any real reason to not use the stuff. Just start with a beginning load and work up from there. A chrony might be helpful.
