To build one with a long throat for a long action Shaw needs a dummy cartridge loaded to the OAL I want, which is 3.125. Does anyone load 6mm AI and wouldn't mind making me a dummy cartridge with a 105 or 107 grain match bullet such as a VLD?

Thanks,
Tyler

Tyler,

Shaw only produces a 6mm Bore with a one in 10 twist..

to stabilize the 107 and 115 grain Match bullets you need a one in 9 or even better a one in 8 twist..

With a Shaw barrel you are going to be limited on the bullet weights, barring the heavier match bullets...

I'd check with Sierra on their 107 grain Match.. but the 105 and 115 grain Bergers won't stabilize in that twist...

Shaw told me the 105 VLDs would stabilize, and most of the rest of the 105 and 107s would do ok. They told me if I drove them fast 115s might work. As this barrel is a birthday present, $150 is about the limit, I'm guessing I won't do very much real target shooting with it, but I would take it prairie dog hunting next year.

I shoot Norma Diamondline 107grs (coated Sierra´s) and 105 Lapua Scenar in my 1:8 twist 6BR. These bullets will NOT do ok from a 1:10 twist barrel!

A friend of mine shoots a 6mmAI in a long custom Rem 700 style action with a 1:10 twist LW barrel, it does very well with the 90grs Scenar

Midway has Shilen match grade barrels for $150.00 And you can get it in 1 in 8 twist. Why mess with a shaw. I just bought one in .257 it is with Malm right now being installed on a FN action in 257 Rob AI.

it is in 10 twist and 95gr vld bullets is as heavy as I can shoot and still keep moa at 300yrds.
Why do you want a long throat?

It was just suggested since I'm building the gun on a long action to take advantage of the bullet seated farther out.
