Congrats on the Find! That's plenty fast enough for deer at moderate ranges.

Have you ran the numbers on a Ballistic Calculator? Trajectory may not be great and it may not do very much internal damage at longer ranges. Penetration should be great at that velocity.

IMR7828 is a great powder in the 25-06, I've had good results w/ it under 115 NBTs.

Good Luck!

I used to shoot a 257Rob. with that same bullet and it was a good killer on deer. When I chronographed the speed it checked out at 2655fps. I was sure I was getting almost 2900fps. After that it didn't seem to kill as well and I sold the rifle. Now, looking back at it I wish I would have kept that gun.

I'll bet you could boost the velocity 200ft. easy and still have the accuracy.

That 120 Hornady hollow point is a well kept secret....it's one helluva fine bullet for the .257 calibers

AAdams,

I ran the numbers through my calc. and it says:

120 grn. Hdy HP (BC=.394)

MV of 2640:

100 200 300
+2.2" 0" -9.5 (w/ a 1998.1 fps impact velocity)

MV of 2930:

100 200 300
+1.7" 0" -7.4" (w/ a 2245.1 fps impact velocity)

Sounds like the R25 load is going to shave off a couple of inches at 300 and give you about 250 fps more impact speed. Theoretically the 3/4 -1" accuracy should be 2-1/4"-3" at 300 but, we all know sometimes that's not the case.

You've got to consider wind also, that slower load is gonna get effected alittle more.

Havce you tried upping your 7828 load to see about a higher velocity? Accuracy? Were you having any pressure signs at that charge?

Ain't it fun making all of these decisions on what we are gonna shoot Ole' Mossy w/ this fall.

Good Luck!

Sounds like a pretty good load out of that STW.

I've really never dealt w/ R25 but, it sounds like it may be another good powder for my 25-06 and Maybe my 7 Weatherby Mag.

Good Luck!
