Hi there I am Jeff and this is my first post. I am wondering if it is possible to cast all copper bullets at home like the Barnes solids. I have yet to find any information on the web and was wondering if anybody here has any experience in this matter or could point me in the right direction.. Thanks!

well IF you could find a mold that would take the heat and IF you could get the copper molted enough, and IF you didn't kill yourself trying, yu might be able to do it. Normally they are a machined item

Copper melts @ 2000deg. If you had a cast iron mold it might contain the het but it melts @ 2150deg, so it would probably warp. No, machining is definetly the way to go. The guys that are doing it are using screw or cnc machines. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Well thanks for the info...guess I hadn't thought it would be that hot! I thought with it being somewhat of a soft metal, that it might be done with molds...too bad, I am inpressed with the characteristics of the copper bullets. guess I will be buying barnes after all..would have liked to have had the option of casting my own using a non toxic metal. Thanks again. Jeff

You could make a ceramic mold. It would take the heat. The trouble is the heat source.

Ive thought about trying adding very small particles of copper to molten lead to increase the hardness of cast bullets but I figure that it would probably just make them break apart easier. The Barnes X bullets utilize a special lazer technology to achive the expanding petals.
