Anyone want to share a best guess (I realize it is a guess) of what you'd load a friend with a rem autoloader in 30-06. I'm using good old hornady 150 interlocks.

I have most every powder on hand..he doesn't have time to work up a load.

After referencing alot of load manuals and info I'm thinking 50.0 of H4895.

Most shots will be under 100 yds so unbelievable accuracy isn't going to be critical but I'd like to do my best.

Don, I'd go with 50grs. of either Varget or 52.5grs.of RE15 with that 150 Hornady. Yes, 50Grs H4895 would work just fine, also. Jay

H4895 is one of the best in '06 with 150 gr bullet.

My favorite is the Speer. I have found that 47.0 gr to 51 gr. to work really good in several rifles. 51 has proven too much in a Rem., but the M70 will handle it.

My Dad's '03 shoots 1/2" @ 100 with 48.0 gr.
Inlaws Model 70 has done a best of 9/16" @ 180 yds with 50.0 gr.

A Bud's Model 700 shoots 1"+ at 100 with 49.0 gr.

Start with 47.0gr & work your way up. Be careful with the 742. Examine the cases closely before increasing. The 700 wouldn't handle as much as the 70.

All my loads are with WW cases & CCI primers.

While the recognition of 4895 is universal as the powder of choice for gas operated military rifles in cal 30-06, I would give IMR3031 a try in that Remington. It is just slightly faster burning and will give a slightly lower pressure at the gas port, thus operating the action a little more softly.

My Mother hunted Idaho deer with a 742 in 30-06 for many, many years. It was capable of good accuracy with factory 150 gr ammo, but my handloads which were built around 4350 and 4831 wouldn't shoot with a darn in her rifle. It was seldom capable of keepin five shots inside a paper plate at 100 yds with these loads.

As soon as I built some loads for that rifle with 3031 it was shooting within 1.5 inches at 100 yds again with 150's and 165's.

The 150 gr bullets should be capable of up to 2900 fps with 45 to 48 gr of 3031.

I prefer the 165 gr bullet over 41 to 45 gr of 3031.
