Plated bullets and Glock barrels

I have heard the warnings about using cast bullets in Glock (polygonal rifling) barrels, so have only used jacketed boolits in the Glock 9mm's. Now I am working with a Glock 30SF in 45 Auto - I have long used cast bullets in my 1911's, but I guess that is not good for Glocks. Maybe plated bullets would be okay - does anyone here have experience in using plated bullets like Rainier Ballistics or Berry bullets in Glock barrels?

ive shot about 1500 plated bullets through my glocks and had no issue. the only warning ive seen about the plated bullets is not to try to push them to hard because it is just plating so its not as hard as a jacket. in a 45 your not going to have any worries about that.

watch your crimp on them also as the plating can be damaged.

and one last thing. you may want to do some more research on the lead in the poly barrels. i know quite a few that shoot nothing but lead through theirs with no issue.

I agree with sksshooter all the way.

I have Glocks in 9mm, 40, and 45ACP and all of them have handled Berry's plated bullets ok. I did notice that when I really stepped on the velocity in the 40 I was getting some light leading.

The G27 and the G30 both had barrels that would not handle cast lead bullets without a severe leading problem. The G17 did handle the same bullet type in the 9mm without the leading issues coming up. Reason....????????

I would try the plated in your G30SF and see what happens. Also I would try the cast bullets in it and also observe the results. My experience is that some Glock barrels will hand cast lead bullets and others choke on them and trying them out seems to be the only way to know.

I had thousands of lead cast bullets in 40 and 45 caliber and wanted to use them so I went to the aftermarket barrel route. After a disaster with Lone Wolf barrels, chambers too short and tight even after sending them back to the factory, I bought some KKM barrels and things are humming along great.

Good luck.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I will try the plated 45s and see how they work. And do some more research on the lead.

I shoot both 10mm models and shoot all types of lead: swaged, hard cast and plated. At a wide range of velocities from slower than 40 cal target loads to pretty fast hard cast loads. No issues at all. Just clean after each range session
