I have a source to buy some SST bullets $13.00 per box I bought one box to give them a try how are they as a hunting bullet ???? if nothing else i'm sure they will punch paper well.

I have been using 210gr Nosler Part.on elk.

And Nosler BT in other guns for varmints and they really explode are the SST's in the same catorgy, I have heard there a lot tuffer bullet then the NBT.

Have any of you used the SST on elk?

Not sure about the 338s but the 165gr in 30 caliber are just like ballistic tips. With a 300 Winchester and the SSTs, a deer looks like a hand grenade went off inside.

Yes...paper too.

At $13.00 bucks a box, how could you argue? Big Grin They sell for $10 more than that where I'm at.

The 225gr. SST's are very accurate in my rifle. Haven't used them on game yet. That'll happen this coming August.

SST's may be OK, but, you're already using a great hunting bullet. Personally I'd stick with the 210 NP for elk sized animals. At nearly 2900 fps.,they work great on everything from coyotes to elk.

That is a good price on the SST's, though.

The main reason I brought it up was i'm down to a 1/2 box of NP and need to buy more, and was hoping I got someone with first hand knowledge using 338 SST on elk size game.

I have been using Nosler bullets for 30 years now so I would not change on a whim.

And in several other guns I would not change at all.

Thanks

NP's are a great bullet, no doubt about it.

Where did you find the SST's for $13?

There is a local place by my house that has 3 more box's with dust on them that he is clearing out, i'm off to the range TM so if they group well i'll stop on my way home and pick up there rest.

He does have some Bear Claws 225gr for $23 per box (25) I can't see working up a load for them just because of the cost + I know what the Noslers will do and already have a load worked up.

HD, well, if you don't like the SST's, please let me know, I'd be more than happy to take them off your hands. Big Grin
