I have ordered dies and Hornady 160 grain FTX bullets and am ready to give 30-30 reloading a try. Anybody have suggestions as to appropriate powder and weight which might be a good formula for this round? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I have worked up a load I really like. I started out with H4895 at 28.9gr. I didn't like the performance of the bullet. Switched to IMR 3031 at 29gr. and tightened up my groups. Shooting quarter sized groups at 100 yds with open sights. Word of caution, I started seeing pressure signs, swollen case, flattened primers, and even split the neck when powder is increased over 29gr.

Thanks for the replies. I did check the Hornady site and do have a small quantity of IMR 4895. I should have formed the question to ask for anyone's experience in loading this bullet in 30-30 round. Thanks wdagel for your experience. I will try to get a pound of IMR 3031 and will give it a try.
