Went to the range resturday and first time shot, sighted in my husky 640 3006 with some factory rds . Then tryed my reloads 54,55,56 grs H4350/ nosler parts/win brass & primers. What other powders do you guys like in your 06s with 180s ? Might try some R19, H4831, Have some 180gr accubonds also. Gotta get some 200gr accubonds next Rick

When I bother to load full power 180s I use IMR4350; the rest of the time I buy Federal Premium Nosler Partitions.

GSP7 in the last year or so, I have been using RL#19 with the 180gr. bullet, I have A 22 inch, bbl, on my rifle and that load go's threw the chrony at 2675 fps, not so fast, but groups are fine.

Same as nordrseta it's always IMR4350.

Right now I'm moving 180 grain interlocks 2,800'/sec using H-414 in a 22" barrel. One can also use RL22 and do well too. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." H4831 and R22 Around 60 grains of either is usually close to max, compressed, and accurate. Good Luck Reloader

180 grain Nosler PT and RL19/Norma 204 worked VERY WELL for my Blaser B95 which seems to like the heavier bullets.

JJMP, I dont have a chrony, but shooting out of a 24" barrel. I shot 20 rds sighting it in 50 to 100 yds with no recoil pad stock, so my shoulder was getting sore for the next 20 reloads. 1, 3 shot group had 3 holes touching, some other 2 holes touching, but I was getting some pulled shots about 1 1/2" - 2" 5 shot groups , I could tell it was me. I was useing a 2x7 luepold scope. Husqvarna barrels are pretty accurate. Barrel was getting hot to. Gonna float the barrel and lap a fresh crown for next trip. Next trip , I will settle down some , havent been to the range in awhile.

Vapodog , Is that 57.5 grs of H414 a pretty hot load? Looks like 414 is just a little faster burning than H4350 acording to my chart, Im up to 56gr of H4350 with 180 NPs. Rick

GSP7 I use a Remington 180 PSPCL over 54.0 gr. of IMR 4350. I shoot a Wincester with a 24 inch Bbl, and I recently shot a five shot group at .9 in outside to outside. Regards, Graham

Same here, except that I have a 24" barrel. I've had excellent results with bullets from 150 gr. to 180 gr. using H 414, so much so that I'm moving toward the opinion that H 414 may be the optimum powder for the 30-06 for bullets in that weight range. "How's that whole 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?"

Yes.....with H-414 I'm getting several reloads and the primers are seating well. I suspect about 65,000 PSI but cannot confirm. Yes....this is over SAAMI for the 30-06 but reasonable for a M70 push feed rifle. I base my estimate on a statement I read that at these pressures a grain of powder is roughly 3,000 PSI.....and that may be total BS as well......so far it seems to be about right. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." One thing you have to take into account is most, if not all loading data for the 30-06 is geared to old weak firearms like the low numbered Springfields, 1895 Winchesters and the like. A modern rifle such as the Winchester m70, Remington 700 or Ruger 77 that can hold pressure if cartridges like the .300 Win. mag. can also withstand that same pressure level in a 30-06. That's the good news. The bad news is you will probably never ever find published data for loads at magnum pressure levels because of all those old rifles. I have often wondered if the people that work up the loading data for the manuals that use the good old 30-06 for themselves, have they worked up to the magnum level loads for their own personal use? I do believe that the factories have downloaded the 30-06 even further, probably lawyer related due to the increasing aging of those old rifles. Run some curent manufactured 30-06 (I used Winchester) over a chronograph using rifles with a 22, 24 and 26 inch barrels and see what you get. When a 22" barreled .308 Win. pushed a 180 gr. Silvertip faster than a 22" barreled 30-06 over the chronograph, something ain't right. The 24" barrel just equalled the .308 and the 26" barrel was still 50 FPS slower than advertised. One of these days I'll have to buy a couple boxes of Remington's ammo for both caliber and try again. All I can say is in my rifles, Winchester ammo does not even come close to advertised velocity in 30-06. YMMV. Paul B.

Paul, the Nosler manual always seems very conservative on powder weights. It shows 55gr of 4350 max with a 180 , while hodgdon, imr, data shows 57.5 max and speer 58 max One thing I need to get is a chrony. Damn, I havent been to the range or reloaded in awhile. Forgot how fun it is reloading and testing loads at the range !

I have a 700 Rem BDL and best it would print was about 1.5" to 2" with every combo you could think of 150-165-180 Nosler part & accubond, Hornady SST, Sierra, using 4350, RL-15 RL-19, H-380, H-4831 IMR4831, AA3100, WMR, Norma MRP, CASES of all types and same with primers. Then I finely tried Barnes triple shock in 168grs using IMR4350 the gun shoots 3/4" or less all day with a Federal MM primer and WW/cases.

gsp7, thanks 4 answering, for those bullets to touch your reloads were doing their job and so were you ,i don''t own a cronograph either and i should thats a fact, put a decellerater pad on that rifle or the new limb-saver recoil pad both are great, keep records of your reloads threw that o6, i''m loading that h4350 in my o6 and acordeing to Hodgsons latest manual it fights tooth and nail with their own h-4831 and only gets beat by it when loadeing the heaviest bullets period,my o6 isn''t finished yet but iv''e got 257 reloads waiteing when she ready. your Husqvarna rifle is one hell of a fine rifle , regards friend jjmp

GSP, 57.5 gr's of H4350 is my standard load for the 180 at 2,750 in my 21" bbl'd M70. Be aware IMR 4350 is NOT the same as H4350 which is a bit slower. 56-56.5 may be your max with IMR (which is also not as temp insensitive as H4350).

your best powders for the 06 with 180 &200 gn nosler proj is NORMA MRP,WXR, &R22 ,with these powdes you can get 2850-2870 fps with the 180 noslers and 2700 fps with 200 gn noslers...24 inch barrel pressure is around 62-63,000 psi daniel

M98, try any Re25 yet with either the 180 or 200 gr. bullets? In my '06 AI I'm getting ~3100 fps with 70 grs. behind a 180 NBT or Accubond with a 26" barrel. Not bad. You should be able to tap/pack ~67 grs in a std '06 case - try neck-sized only Norma or Lapua case. I predict over 2900 fps with a 24" barrel and PSI <65,000 psi.
