Looking for some input for 257Roberts loads. 100gr bullet. Would like to stick with powders that I have on hand which include:
IMR 4350
" 4831
" 4320
H 4895
" 335
" BLC(2)
" 4831
" 380
REL 15
" 22
" 25
If there is a consensus on another powder I will try to get some but 4350,4831,4320 and H380 seem to turn up in a lot of the manuals I have.
Thanks!

Do you have a manual or several manuals?
Just use the top loading for the 4350 of your choice.

I have manuals from 8 manufacturers altogether. Some 40+ years old, some current.
Just thought I would check with the AR brain trust to see if anyone had suggestions.

The powers you have will do nicely. tu2

I usually go with IMR 4350 in mine, but a couple weeks ago I tried some IMR 4831 with a 117 gn Hornady and was pleasantly surprised with the results.. I would recommend giving it a try.

4350 for the 100g bullets
4831 for the 117g bullets w/ the powder choices you have.
Rusty, here on AR, is partial to RL 15 w/ the 110g NAB.
I have acquied some 115g NPs and will work up some loads w/ RL 17&22, H 4350, H 4831, H 414, W 760 to satisfy my never ending thirst for accuracy.

I'll try 4350 first.
Thanks for the help!

I use 4320 and get more velocity (and pressure) than with 4350; I basically load all the case will hold, and my old Ruger will take it, with bullets seated far out. Do not try this unless you work up to it.

Also remember , plus + cases have less volume than standard cases. Start lower and work up .

44 IMR 4350 would be a very light load for me and my rifle.
I did not know that the +P brass was different; never had any.

My sons Ruger Ultra Light really likes 100 grain Sierra's with max loads of IMR 4064. When that powder got hard to find we started shooting RL 17.
Great accuracy and my 11 year old thinks it is magic on whitetailed Deer. This past weekend he filled all 3 of his tags with one shot kills. He has now taken 7 Deer with that load.

My .257 prefers the heavier 117 grain bullets (Sierra) and likes 41.5 grains of IMR 4350.

The +P brass that I have is heavier than standard brass. My Lyman manual lists 43.5 gr. AA4350 as a max. for standard 257 Roberts loads with 100 gr Sierra bullet. Max +P load is listed as 46.0 gr. AA4350. My gun has a short throat, I load 2.79 COL.

I just shot a real nice group this week with 100gr TSX bullets and reloder 17 powder. 45gr is what I used and I tickeled with the group I got. I will load them again and go 45. 45.5 and 46 and see what happens.
At the same test i tried the 110 interbond starting at 40gr, 41& 42 and got nothing close to imppressive.
My other great load with 100 gr sierra bullets came with Win 760 powder 43gr was the best for me with this powder and bullet combo. FS

The 257 Roberts isn't picky on powder or bullets in most rifles when properly bedded and with a good barrel, but then that applies to most calibers..I would rely on a good reloading manual such as the Nosler book and drive the 100 gr. bullet as fast as I could.

Another H414 fan.
Bug hole groups at 100 yds using 45.0 gr. H414

Realistically, most of the powders you have on hand will do a yeoman like job.

Seems that somewhere in the mid 40 gr. range is the place you need to be.
Consult your manual and go from there.

44 gr. of IMR 4350 in a Remington nickel case, Fed. 210 primer, loaded to 3" OAL gives me 2900 fps and MOA accuracy in a 22" Douglas featherweight barrel screwed into a 1909 Argentine Mauser action.
