I'm wondering what results people have had with W 760 in .270 winchester? (I've searched until my eyes have dried up and fallen out!) killpc

I believe the Hornady manual lists max at 54 gr. for its 130 gr. Flat base bullet. That gave me a velocity of a little more than 2900 fps.

Though I've got a lot of RL 22 on hand, I might work up a little higher with 760. 54 grains game me no pressure signs at all.

Just wondering what results any of you might have had.

P.s. 61 grains of RL22 gave me about 3015 fps w/the same 130 gr. Interlock.

Either way, I'm looking for a little higher velocity for the 130 grainers. I might just save the 22 for 140 & 150's.

Thanks!

friar

max for 270 and ww760 130gr bullet is about 54grs. I have not had very good resultd with this powder.
R22 should give you higher velocity's.
I have had good results with imr4064, H414, H380, and a few others.
If your looking at 3000f/s out of a 24" barrel.
You may not get it with out going over yhe max.

Are you aware that Winchester 760 and H414 are the VERY SAME powder?

Look at these loads from Hodgdon.....It do appear that Win 760 (H-414) does almost as well as any powder a going. You might ding out another 75'/sec with another powder but any Wisconsin bambi hit with a good load of Win 760 is ready for the frying pan!

Thanks everyone for the comments! I kind of suspected I was nearing the point of diminishing returns w/ 760.

And you're spot-on, of course, Vapo--those young Wisconsin deer are mighty tasty, and I've yet to get a shot at one much past 200 yards anyway!

Many thanks,beer
