I have recently started reloading my own ammo, I have reloaded from 9mm to 45 colt. I purchased a 44Rem Mag and after shooting a box of bullets I decided it was time to get a Die and start reloading for the 44 Mag. My problem is first I can't get to insert a picture of my bullet so I will try to explain whats wrong. I'm using a Redding Die set it's my first one all my others are RCBS, LEE or Hornady, when seating and crimping the bullet I get just below the actual bullet an indentation that goes inward all around the case. Like I said I have reloaded otther calibers with the other Dies and have not had a problem. Can someone shed some light on this subject and oh ya is it safe to shoot these bullets, I have made 10 with two types of loads. Thanks MCCM

Tough to diagnose without pictures. Try seating some bullets without crimping. If the problem goes away you're crimping to much. Tom Z NRA Life Member

Sounds like a heavy crimp.

You are putting the roll crimp too far down the neck. You need to screw the seating die out of the press a little and then readjust your seating stem to the correct OAL. The roll crimp should be just at the very edge of the case/bullet juncture. If you have never loaded for a revolver cartridge you haven't had to deal with roll crimp as the auto-pistol dies taper crimp. Dennis Life member NRA

Thanks to All, I will retry the procedure, hopefully I'll get it right. I had no problem with my 45 colt reloads when I did those. I guess I was lucky. Thanks Again

Put your pics on Photobucket and it is one click to copy them and paste them here. Well, two clicks. And sounds like you have your crimp die screwed in too far. Yes, shoot the ones you already made and start over.

Problem Solved after contacting Redding, they told me that for this particular Die set because it does 44 Mag and 44 Special when sdjusting the first two Dies, after your adjustment is made you turn back 1/8 of an inch on the dies to compensate for the extra length of a 44 Mag case compared to a 44 Special case. I tried it last night and after tinkering a little with the actual 1/8 spacing I had no more indentation. Thanks to all Again
