Guys,

Time to buy another 8 pounder of 4350.

XMR 4350 is about $20 cheaper around here.

Am building moderate loads for .338 Win Mag and .416Rigby. (Yes, I know I'd have to work them up again.)

Any thoughts on the two powders?

Twenty buck would be $20 more into the Africa fund.

Thanks,

I use both and have found no appreciable difference in them. In my 6.5-06AI, they appear to act exactly (velocity and accuracy) the same. If it was me, I would save the money.

Mike, I switched to AA XMR 4350 10 years ago when working at the gunshop where it started to be sold. The main reason was price,(at that time $11.50 - $18.50). Density was the same as was velocity, couldn't see any change in pressure. It has worked well in all calibers it can be loaded in for me. It even seems to be the best burning rate in my 300 WSM for mid-range weights.

That gunshop stopped selling Accurate Arms powders, cleaned the shelf off and cut the price. I picked up 2 more pounds,(all that was left), hope it lasts.

....and when you get up into the 65-75 grain charges there is about one grain difference for the same velocity in the 4350's. My experience.

AA 4350 is a "generic" powder of IMR 4350. It is another powder company matching as best they can the burn characteristics of a given existing powder. Much like generic vs original drugs after the patent runs out.

As an aside; there are several powders sold by different companys using different names that are indeed the exact same powder made at the same plant. Sometimes one lot will be powder X and the next lot powder Y. But sometimes the same lot is sold as both X and Y depending on demand volumes.

The onlt real difference I noticed is the PRICE !! Both shoot well in all my medium magnums and they really get after the velocity in my new toy..300 SAUM, 3175 fps with no pressure signs whatsoever !! The also keep the barrel much cleaner than the slower burning rate powders..good stuff!

H4350 is about half as temperature sensitive as XMR4350.

I generally get just a little less MV out of XMR4350, for the same pressure.

If you're not stressing for max velocity, save the money. I cleaned the local supplier out when he stocked his shelf with XMR4350 at $13.50 per pound. Works terrific in my Swedish Mauser.

Hit the jackpot at another sports shop, and picked up an old 5 pounder of H4350 for $65.

Still have a can of IMR4350, but for some reason, haven't used much of it.

For some reason quickLOAD loves it for 7x57 etc showing very good velocities and 100% burn in the barrel when the IMR and hodgdon equivalents are around 95%. Interesting but I won't trust it until I've tried it.
