Hey!

Just finished load development on the .338 Lapua Magnum. Shot Audette's ladders at 1000 yards at magazine length with the 300 gr. Sierra MK and US-869. The best load had 5" of vertical which wasn't too bad.

I then went back to a previous load derived from an Audette shot at a mere 200 yards but at a longer OAL; .030" off the lands. Shot it at 1000 yards and the load had only 2.5" of vertical dispersion! The velocities were more consistent with a spread of only 10 fps for the 5 shots....therefore no vertical!

The wind was bad. 10 to 20 mph measured with a Kestrel from 10 O'Clock. All I was interested in was a load with NO vertical:

The impacts are highlighted in orange spray paint.....

This tells me that shooting an Audette even at a range as close as 200 may produce a great load....but confirm it at the range it will be used!

That's awesome! The best I've done is 4". It really confirms the work you've done and instills confidence in your ability, rifle and loading technique.

I just recently hit 820 rounds down my barrel and in the process of comparing "just" annealed brass vs non-annealed brass discovered I had lost about 60 fps due to throat wear. I now need to measure my throat wear, determine how much longer to seat the bullets, as I seat 10 thou into the lands, and probably add about .2 gr of powder to bring the velocity upto where the accuracy node was. Though in shooting the annealed brass comparison I shot four 5-shot groups, two each, and the annealed had a .111" group and the non annealed had a .375" group. So, I went and annealed all 150 6.5x47 Lapua cases.

You've got a great round/load there. Lets see pics of the stick?

Sound like you have a great rifle. Annealing has proven itself to me as well. I now anneal every 3 firings on all my brass.

This .338 is a friend's rifle; I wish it were mine!

It has the Barrett BORS ranging system. I haven't played with it but my friend says it's amazing. He's killed elk with his 7mm RUM at 780 yards with the BORS mounted on his scope.

Hell man! He don't need to shoot it. He just need to poke it in the eye with that long barrel.

It's still a sweet stick.

Ha!

It's a 32" stainless Brux barreled by Score High Gunsmithing, Charley Robertson. Score High Tactical Muzzle BRAKE...Ha again!

I just did the load development for him; he was having issues.

He has a gentlemen's bet with a friend on a 1000 yard shooting contest. If he loses, he has to dress up in a clown's suit and pace back and forth in front of his friend's business with a sign to bring in customers.

If he wins, his friend has to go shirtless with "X beat me in a long range contest" written in red lipstick, and walk around the winner's business for 3 days! dancing
