I'm just starting to test IMR4831 in my 243's. Would anyone care to share a few of their pet loads using "this" powder ? My biggest concern is with bullets of 85 grs and under. Thanks, BEN243

I really didn't find IMR-4831 the best powder with the 85 grain bullets.

IMR-4350 From 37.4 grains to 45.0 grains
Remington 9-1/2 Primer

IMR-3031 From 30.0 grains to 37.9 grains
Remington 9-1/2 Primer

I agree with Steve. I had good luck with IMR-4831 with the 100 gr bullets in the .243, but had better results both velocity and accuracy with IMR-4350 and IMR-4064 with bullets 85 gr and under.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

I agree with Steve also the 4350 is a noted accurate powder in .243's. By using IMR 4831 you're going to be losing about 100 fps in MV also.

For bullets 70 Gr. and under I would go to Varget, W760 or H414.

Nosler actually suggests it as the "most accurate powder tested" with 85/90gr bullets in the 243Win.

I neither own nor load for the 243Win, but Noslers quoted loads for the 85gr Partition and 90Gr Ballistic tip are:
40.5gr 3000fps
42.5gr 3120fps
44.5gr 3240fps

I'd look more towards IMR4350, H4350, AA3100, W748 and H380.

Thanks for the responces. The 4350 (H and IMR) powders, for some reason, just aren't very accurate in two of my three 243's. Those two rifles prefer a slower burning powder with 85 grain bullets and above. I've been using a case full of H4831(SC) with excellent results for a very long time. However, H4831(SC) loses a lot when the bullet weight goes under 85 grains. So I'm now looking to find another slow burning powder that I can use with the lighter bullets (70-85 grs) that might keep my POI about the same. BEN243

I like H-414 up to 87 grains.....H-4831 after that.

Try Varget for 55 - 75gn projectiles .

i think 4831 is to slow for 243. 4350 is the classis, but if that isn't working try H414 (760) its similar burining rate, but changes the pressure curve some
