I went to the local gunshop today to check on primers. They would only sell me 200 of each at $10.00 per hundred! Yes, you read that right---$100 per thousand. I'm smelling something really rotten.

$10 per 100 is pretty darn outrageous. Unfortunately too many, local shop owners take advantage of those who "need it now" when they have something in stock that's in demand and hard to get. My typical reaction to that tactic is to buy somewhere else or just wait.

Unless I was ABSOLUTELY in dire need of them I would tell them no thank you and I hope you enjoy looking at them sit on your shelf. I ran a small business for 35 years and realize the need to turn a profit but we never took advantage of the customer like that. If there is another shop anywhere nearby I might take all future business down the road or get a few buddies to split an order from Powder Valley or other on line retailer.

They are also asking $48.00 for a pound of Varget. Yes, I will shop elsewhere.

We can thank the hoarders for this situation!

I would check lots of places on the internet. I went to a gun show last weekend and picked up 1K Winchester Large Rifle primers for $36. The small primers were $45. I have never paid more that $50 for 1K. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

if you're speaking on the gunshop on SPID that rhymes with the state we live in, he's famous for that.... i found some .416 rem mag ammo couple yrs ago, he'd had it on the shelf for quite some time... it was marked $42/box... i had enough cash on me for a box, planned on returning later for the other 3 boxes... 3 hrs later it was $105....i asked, he denied changing price.... i refuse to do business with them.... i can buy from several others that don't price-gouge... go big or go home ........ "local gunshop today to check on primers. They would only sell me 200 of each at $10.00 per hundred" I have mixed emotions about this sort of stuff. I hate gougers. I also hate that hoarders will scarf up everything in sight if the price permits it. Your shop IS overcharging BUT if they did not, it's unlikly you would have found any primers at all. Which is worse, not get any or pay too much???

Guys, not sure where you are shopping but even up here in Anchorage Alaska more than a couple of shops have semi full shelves of powder and a good assortment of Rem and CCI primers. We have to pay more than you lesser 48 folks but its out there. Most expensive powder I bought was this week, $35 for a pound of V133. One store is selling the V line for $45 a pound and there shelves are still full. Most other powders are running about $25 or so a pound. Seen several 8 pound jugs of Varget for $189. Sportsman Warehouse was pretty well stocked with powder as well. Many 8 pound jugs in stock as of Tuesday. At another store think I paid $35 or $39 per 1,000 for CCI LR primers last month. Store had all I wanted. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

At least 1 dealer at the San Antonio gunshow last weekend was selling a variety of newly stocked Rem and CCI primers for $35/1000. Another was still trying to get $60.

Snow: That really sucks. Our SW has virtually zip, nada, zero in powder or rifle primers. The only other supplier - Frontier Sporting both in Fbks. & N.P. has some powder but not a lot. Again, as I recall, few if any primers. That said, I was able to pick up 2 bricks of Win. LR primers about a month ago at SW. Very little of IMR powders to be found here. Decent supply here in Davenport, IA. Shops on both sides of the river have primers. If you can't find your flavor in one shop, the guy down the road has them. The only thing I can't find is Wolf primers! The shops here won't stock them.
