I've been shooting this for a while now with no issues but got to wondering if someone could run it through Quickload and make sure the numbers there look safe too.

30/30 win, 16.7 gr of blue dot. Case OAL loaded is 2.344

Speer 30 Plinker RN SP - Round Nose Soft Point Diameter: .308" Weight: 100gr Ballistic Coefficient: 0.124

Chrono'd velocity is 2400 fps, with about (IIRC) 50 fps variation.

Anyway, it is a pleasant shooting round, accurate enough for iron sights at 100 yards. No pressure signs whatsoever but just wondered if someone could be so kind as to run the numbers so I can make sure they are OK.

Thanks,
Mark

It’s in line, no problems with that load. I would think it’s a pleasure to shoot.

You can juice it up if you like but why? If you like the load, I would leave it as is and have fun.

Mick, thanks for the answer.

The question for me is not if it needs to be increased, but whether it should be decreased. Unfortunately lower charge weights affected the velocity deviation to a much larger extent but for what I am using it for +/- 25fps is perfectly fine with me.

Oh, if you or anyone does have a calculation for the chamber pressure at this loading I'd be interested in knowing what it is.

LOL,,, you’re a darn good fisherman aren’t you?

And no! I’m not even going to try to come up with the answers to your questions. You already have the answers. Wink

Mick and DUK,

Thank you both very much!

And Mick, my apologies if I gave you the impression I was trolling. I should have phrased my question more clearly that I just wanted to verify this load was not only safe, but not close to the border of being unsafe. And then morbid curiosity had me wondering where along the chart this loading actually was. If you find yourself about 900 miles due east this fall let me know and we can go squirrel hunting with it and you can see for yourself how fun it is to shoot....
(And DUK that goes for you too, except you'd have to be about 4500 miles west)

Thanks for the invitation! I hunt roe deer with a "blue-dotted" .338 WM, that is some fun, too.

Do you eat the harvest of that "squirrel sniping"? I went squirrel hunting with a buddy in S. Florida, it was fun and we got some racoons, too. Neither did we eat, however, the snipe yes.

Sorry Mark, I may have pulled the trigger on you a little too quick. But it looks like Duk fixed you up. Wink
