I'm new to reloading and have never posted here before, but have been reading topics on this board for a little while now.

I've got a Model 70 in .243 Win, a Ruger M77 in .270 Win, and a new Savage 114 Classic in 7mm Remington Magnum. I believe I've got all the needed equipment for reloading. Is H4831 powder a good match for all three? I'm pretty sure it's good for the .270 and the 7mm, but I'm questioning the .243 since other powders are more commonly mentioned for it. I should say I only have H4831 on hand and would like to keep it to one powder if possible. Your thoughts?

Edit: These rifles are for hunting. I'd like excellent accuracy, but at the end of the day I'm using them for hunting deer, elk, and the like.

I use H-4831 in my .243 with very good results! 3080 FPS with the 100 Gr. Seirra Boattail. Accurate, and deadly. My son has killed three deer with three shots with this load.

Before I rebarreled my M70 243, I used H4831 behind 100grn pills and they worked great. Great accuracy, good velocity and .... well when it hit the ground it didn't really care what powder I used!
I have changed to 85grn for 'yote hunting and haven't settled on a combo yet but am gonna work with H4831!

85grn 41 to 48 grains
100grn 37 to 46 grains

Always, start low and work up!

The only way you will know, Is to go to the range, and let the rifle tell you if it will work. And you have three to do, that will take some of you time. But that's what it's all about.

4831 will work. So would 4350. Even something like rl19 or rl22. My accuracy load with my 243 is a full case of RL22.

As usual just my $.02

It depends on the bullet wt. in your 243 but H4831 would be my starting place for the 270 & 7rm w/ just about any bullet wt.

I've got 100 gr. Hornady Interlocks for the .243 and 130 gr. Interlocks for the .270. I just loaded 30 of each. For the .243 I did 5 each at 40.5, 41.5, 42.5, 43.5, 44.5, and 45.5. I'll start shooting at the bottom and see what the cases look like as I proceed up.

For light bullets in the 243 it is not the best but will work ok.
It is much better for 100 grain bullets in the .243.
For the .270 and 7MM mag it should work great.

Your top .243 load listed will be close to max.

Yes. Best for the .270 & 7 mag., but is pretty good in the .243 also....

Theoreticly you have picked a good powder for all 3. but If all 3 of your rifles like The powder you have gotten somewhat lucky.
No way to tell what will work in a particular rifle till you shoot it...tj3006
