I am having trouble loading for a browning auto in 30-06. I am using SB rcbs dies once fired brass (form this gun) 150 gr nosler BT and IMR 4350. I am getting vertical poi changes after about six shots I am shooting completely over the paper. I have tried several powder weights, bullet seating depth and with and without crimp. I have also tried 165 and 180 gr bullets with the same results. I can shoot factory ammo and group arround 1" with any brand and bullet weight.

Am I overlooking something simple?

BTW I have tried loading single and from the mag with same result.

Have you tried 3 or 4 handloaded rounds followed by several factory rounds of the same weight and style bullets? I'm wondering that by preparing the condition for the vertical rise would the factory ammo bring it back to zero or continue to rise.

Have all reloads been with Nosler BT's or does this condition exist for various bullet styles with handloads.

I want to thinks it the optics or something's loose except for the factory ammo doesn't produce it.

You might try a different powder. I use W760 for my M1 and 7400 -06.

Good luck.

I have a Browning BAR in 30-06 also. It does pretty much the same thing. Actually, I can see it start to change starting with the third or fourth shot. I think it is due to the heat. Let it cool down and the impact will return to where it started. That is not a problem with hunting, but I cannot use the gun in a competition shoot at the range.

It sounds to me like your barrel is heating up and "walking" which causes the POI to change rather than your charge or bullet weight.

I don't know a validated source for this but I'll share it anyway. The BAR has a history of occasional accuracy problems as you describe. It is rumored that improving the accuracy of the BAR led to the development of the BOSS. Some at the Browning factory noticed that when all else failed, chopping 1-2" of barrel off an otherwise unfixable BAR usually helped it to shoot much better. You might want to have browning put a BOSS on the end of your rifle and perhaps that might improve your accuracy. Otherwise, try a faster powder such as IMR4064 or Varget.

Good Luck

I recently completed load development for the same gun as yours using the OCW round robin method(mine has the BOSS though), 47.7 gr of Varget, Fed 210GM primer and Barnes 168gr TSX seated to magazine depth and crimped using the Lee Factory Crimp die. The gun shoots very tight three shot groups (less than .25") allowing the barrel to cool about two minutes beteween shots, however this is a hunting gun and if I shoot two shots back to back it still maintains a great group but from the third shot on it will begin to climb but nowhere to the point of leaving the paper. I'm convinced as previously mentioned that it's due to barrel heat. The mere design of the gas action prevents the barrel from being free floated. Try using Varget and try to keep you're bullet runout under .002. Keep us posted as to your results.

Thanks all
Barrel heat very well could be the problem, as I tend to shoot more when pulling rounds from a 50 round mtm box rather than a factory box. The next trip to the range should lead me to the problem with your help
thanks again
