This discussion on the Barnes TSX's has led me to wonder on others results with the Swift bonded bt bullet. I've shot two deer with them now, 165gr Scirroco in a 300WSM at an estimated 3000fps? Anyway, one was a 100lb doe, the other was 155lb buck (dressed weight) and both were slightly quartering to me. Neither exited the deer, but provided a terrific wound channel. I only recovered the bullet out of the doe, which was a 200 yard shot, and it penetrated in front of one shoulder and lodged against the hide in front of the opposite hind quarter. It expanded to just over .9" with 1/4" of shank left. I did not weigh it yet, but it looks like the picture perfect mushroom. So what are others experiences with this bullet? I am happy with the performance, but it does seem to be limited in penetration but that isn't really a suprise given the expansion. Also, what kind of accuracy have these bullets offered? I didn't have too much time for loading this year and settled on a load that was right around MOA. Shoot straight, shoot often. Matt

Before I ever purchased the Scirocco bullets, I had heard that they are: 1) Very finicky 2) BUT, once you find a load, they are very consistent and accurate. I have several that I've tried and am happy with the results. In my 300 RUM, I used the 180 and found very tight groups with Re25 and Retumbo. I also used the 180 in my 30.06 to take an Alberta bear. Pass through, dropped it on the spot. I realize the Scirocco seems to have a reputation as a "nonpenetrator" but my bullet passed through the bear's shoulders at very close range. My friend took the CoreLokt 220 in his .06. His bullet did NOT pass through which surprised him. I was warned here at AR that the Scirocco "pancakes" upon impact and would be a poor choice for bear. I disagree. The hole in the gound beyond the offside shoulder was golf ball sized and deep. Keep in mind the jacket is solid copper, so you need to watch for fouling. I'll second Doc's comments--they are spot on; especially the part about watching for fouling. I've shot at least two, and maybe four deer with the Scirocco. Of the two that I can remember for certain, both were clean pass-throughs. The first was a shot you'd expect any bullet to exit--a 200 yard broadside shot at a fawn. The second was a good sized 1 1/2 year old buck; it weighed maybe 140 field dressed, maybe more. The buck was shot while quartering towards me at about 70 yards, from an elevated stand. The bullet entered and broke the near shoulder, blew out the heart and lungs, and exited through one of the last ribs on the opposite side. There were two exit wounds, one major one and a much smaller exit wound. Were it not for the fickleness of finding a moa load, I would not hesitate to use it for any kind of deer hunting. I have also heard some good reports on it for Elk, but have no firsthand experience there. Good luck! friar Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain.

I used a 150 Scirocco in a 300 H&H to kill a good sized Mule Deer. It shot through two feet of deer and kept going. However, I never really liked the marginal accuracy I was getting and quit the bullet for that reason. I was unable get Sciroccos to shoot in either a 7mm Ultra Mag or a 30-06.

I have tried the 165gr and 180gr scirocco in my 300ultramags using several powders and loads and I was not successful at getting them to shoot accurately in either rifle. In fact the groups were the worst ever fired in either gun.The copper fouling was extensive after just a few shots.

The 180's are some of the most accurate bullets in my 30-06. This particular rifle shoots most bullets well however. I have shot about 4 or 5 deer with it. No complaints. All died quickly with minimal fuss. Big exit wounds. I would reccomend this bullet. As for the fouling I use Wipe Out and fouling just dissolves. Not a big deal. Good hunting! Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

I HATE Scirrocos! Can't get the SOBs to shoot worth a crap in any rifle. Funny, because I think the A-Frame is the finest bullet in the world!

I shoot 180 gr in my .300WBY Blaser and they shoot grate. I load them with 4064 at about 2900 fps.I shoot Scirroco's for deer and A-Frames for other things. This is a very acurate load for me . I constantly kill game between 150-300 yrds with ease. My farest shot is 415 at a mule deer in Montana. He went about 50 yrds. I shoot Scirroco's being a boat tail long range.

The Remington factory loads were the most accurate out there for my '06 (1/2" when I was good), and killed a few hogs very nicely. But man were they all about fouling.

They are great out of my 300 RUM Sendero; my buddy and I sighted it in and he was so he decided to buy the same rifle. We tried sighting his in with Scirrocos and we could not get them to group worth a damn. He now shoots TBBCs out of his and gets great groups; I am still using Scirrocos and getting great results. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day.
