H335 will do just fine and meters in extremely uniform fashion.

Hey lojack, I've found H4895 to work well in both the 223Rem and 308Win as far as accuracy is concerned. It is a short stick type of powder, but meters well for me.

You might want to try WW-748 or BL-C2 which are both Spherical types of powder. Both meter like water and provide the opportunity for just a bit higher speed than H4895.

The only real problem is that each firearm normally prefers a "particular" powder and it is impossible to tell you which one your rifles will like the best.

By the way, I've found Hodgdon Benchmark to be the Accuracy Champ in my 223Rem. I've not tried it in my 308Wins cause I think it might be a bit too fast for them.

Best of luck to you.

I've not gotten started a yet! I'm working with the Sierra 155 Palma in my AR-10t. From several articles and the Sierra handbook the powder of choice is IMR4064.
Having used IMR 4064 in my 45-70 boltgun I know that IMR 4064 is not the best of all powders to use, taking uniformity of dropped charges into account. I always keep a small pan of loose powder near the scale for adding a couple of grains extra.
Accuracy is my goal, so the extra few seconds required to add the missing couple ofgrains is not a problem.
After I get the accuracy load using the Sierra Palmas and IMR 4064 I'll play around with some of the bulk ball powders from Bartlets.

I have been using IMR4895 in 223 and 308 for some time.

I tried H335 in 223 for increased velocity, but I can't get the accuracy with it.

I agree with Waxman in the choice of Varget, but that's just my own opinion. Your rifle may prefer one caliber with that powder and not the other. You just have to experiment to find what is best in your rifle. Best wishes.

One powder for both? H4895 will work well, as will H335. You can also try Accurate Arms 2230 and 2460. All are very near one another in terms of burn rate.
For some choices bit slower in burn rate, you can go with WW748 or AA2520. Good luck!

I would go for Accurate 2230,
I use it for .222R (Sierra 1400 flatbase HP) and 7mm-08 (150grs Sierra HPBT)(not exactely .223 and .308 but very close)

I asked the same exaxt question before I started loading a few months ago. And now that I have had a chance to load a fair amount of both I am glad I went witrh the Varget. For the 308 it is an amazingly accurate powder. And for the 223 it works pretty good to. It is a great powder to work for both calibers. Which are the 2 main calibers I shoot. You can stock one single powder for both calibers and be done with it.

Varget gets my vote.

Accurate 2230: works well in small-volume cases as it generates the correct amount of pressure for the time required for the bullet to begin moving in the barrel and thus does not endanger the rifle or shooter with extreme pressure rises.

I use surplus powers in all my 223 and 308 loads. WCC 844 works great and is cheap to boot.
