I am starting to work up loads for a 7mm-08 using Nosler 140 and 150 grain sb, and bt bullets. Savage 7mm-08 with a 22inch barrel. I picked up some Varget to start loading with. The Hodgdon book lists Varget 42.2gr at 2800 for a 140 gr and 41.3 gr for a 150 gr at 2730 from a rem 24 inch barrel. (I know every gun is different. Can you tell me what your best load is using these combinations? Any other powder that blows Varget away if I don not get the results that I want? Thanks, Jim

Hey Doc, I have had very good results with 43.5 grs. of Varget with the 140 gr. Partitions. My 7mm-08 still likes RL-15 a bit better. Good Hunting, Bob

DrJim, You might remember I use 39.5grs. of Varget with 150BTs, 40grs. was slightly less accurate, either load put 2 shots in the same hole and the third off to the right a bit, when I shot 3 shots at 300 last Sat. the group went 1 9/16", RE15 as I've said in prior threads is my favorite 7mm08 powder, but I can't argue with the results Varget gives me with the Noslers. I load four 7mm08s, for three of my sons and my own. Two of my sons like the Hornady Superformance ammo with the 139gr SST bullet. In my 22" barreled Marlin bolt action this factory load goes right on 2900fps so spot on what the factory quotes, 2950fps MV in a 24" barrel. I handload the same 139gr SST bullet for all three sons with 43.0grs Varget for an average MV of 2884fps and MOA accuracy in my 22" barreled Marlin. For myself I load the 120gr Sierra Prohunter bullet in front of 45.0grs Varget for a MV of 3025fps and same MOA accuracy. All three boys use suppressors with barrels shorten to 18"-20" so the MV for the 139gr SST load will be lower but so too will any factory load in the shortened barrels. As a note, a Hornady Superformance 139gr factory cartridge that I pulled down contained 47.8grs of powder. This will be Superformance powder but not necessarily the SF canister powder available to reloaders. At that charge and MV it is very close to the 47.0gr H4350 load I have used with 140gr bullets giving a MV of 2900fps in my first 24" barreled Rem700 7mm08.

Thanks for the info I have bumped a couple of old post. From 15+years ago. I like the Hornaday 139 whitetail loads in all my guns. I get 2880 in the 08 when I have checked the velocity. The concern I have is I am running low on the and I have two boxes and they have different primers both silver and brass colored. I just have to find some powder but the old posts give 3 or 4 in that powder range. Thanks. Jim

I take the max and the starting load, average them and that will be MY maximum. Somewhere between the start and My max load will be the best shooter. Frequently I find a great load with t he start load. YMMV Be Well, Packy.
