Has anyone reloaded any of the Barnes 70gr TSX BT 223 bullets?
What kind of powder was used and how much?
My friend tried some this weekend and said they were tumbling when they hit.

Any advice would be nice,

Thanks
Ben

Barnes website says 1:8 twist minimum for that bullet in a 223, pretty fast for a factory rifle. Do you know the twist rate on his barrel?

I think Sako and Tikka are the only factory bolt .223 rifles with a twist that fast. You'll find a lot of ARs with twists that fast and faster though.

If they really were tumbling they were not stabilized. If they were not stabilized they were not fired in a CLEAN 1/8 barrel. A 1/9 barrel will stabilize a 73 gr. Sierra MK just fine, so I would either: 1) apply the bullsh*t factor to the story. or: 2) make sure your friend knows the proper way to determine twist. Hint: it's not taking the sellers word for it.

Given a 1:8 (or 1:7.7), and case full of Varget, there should be no negative issues with the 70 grain TSX bullet.

The trick is that such a load must be fast and accurate. When all is right it should be easy to make nice coyote killin' sized groups at 600 yards.
