I am going to switch from 200 grain Speers to 180 greain Nosler partitions and would like to know what powder gives the highest velocity from a 26 inch barrel with that bullet.

Rick--there will be no clear winner. Re22,25, H1000, I7828--they are all going to be within 50 fps of each other when you max out and depending on the lot of powder you might get any one of them to finish last or any one of them to finish first. Go for the one that gives the best accuracy.

Good advice. Also consider Retumbo. The Hodgdon propellants I've used also vary from lot to lot and particularly in the Retumbo and H1000. I had great luck with H1000 recently along with RL22. One lot of Retumbo also was great but with the next there was a 4g variance in the max loads and the second lot was not nearly as accurate.

Try V V N160 AND N560, that is what I use with 180gr Nosler Partitions.

Out of a 26" Tube I've been getting my best velocity w/ IMR7828 under the 180s. 3070 is about as fast as I've been able to go w/o getting pressure signs. I couldn't get to that speed w/ H4831 or H1000 w/o having a sticky bolt and flat primers. H1000 will go over 3000 but, not much higher w/o pressure signs in this particular rifle. R 22 may be the ticket for velocity I just can't get any great accuracy w/ it in this Cart.

H4831 is the most accurate powder I've used in the 300 win w/ 180s, 190s, and 200s. H1000 is close behind.

Good Luck!

Best load I've seen and used is listed by Alliant Powder Co. - that is, 82.3 grs. of Re25. In a 24" barrel they report ~3112 fps. I use 83 grs. of Re25. Retumbo may perform slightly better. I wouldn't take either powder past 3250 fps., which should be ~65,000 psi in a 26" barrel.

Here's the actual Alliant listing:

Sierra 180 SBPT/24"barrel/OAL=3.340/Fed.Pri. 215/Re25/82.3g./3,112 fps/60,600 psi

max load in a 26" Remington Sendero

72.0 gr. of IMR 4350
3085 fps

The incremental difference in trajectory and waste of materials getting there serve no real purpose. Back off two grains and you would never ever know the difference.

75 to 77grs of RL-22 with a 180gr Partition or Accubond has proven to be a superior load in about a dozen different 300 Win Mags that me and my reloading buddies have tried it in. Seat about .010 to the lands and use Federal 215M primers to duplicate our loads.........DJ

I had excellent results with H1000 and 200 grain bullets. I also had good results with 7828 from one can and poor from the next. I used up all of those two powders I had and now have Old H4831, new H4831, AA4350 and numerous others but these are the most likely candidates. I may buy another can of H1000 as I really liked the way it handled the 200 grain bullets.

I like RL 19 and 22 in the 300 Win, but have run into the same lot-to-lot variations that Bob mentioned. This is also the main reason I don't like H 1000, that and it doesn't seem to give the accuracy that the RL powders do. I like the consistency of IMR 7828, but it sometimes doesn't give the accuracy the RL powders do.
