Ive never tryed Barnes bullets. Ive never realy paid attention to anything about them.

Do they come 100 in a box or just 50?

I know they dont have lead in them. Are they longer?

Whats the full scoop on them? Whats so great or not good about them?

They usually come in a box of 50. And they are usually longer due to copper weighing less. You might take a look at their web-site. www.barnesbullets.com Should answer all your questions...

The earlier Barnes 'X' were hit or miss on accuracy. I tried them in 3-4 rifles w/ average accuracy at best. Now the new 'TSX" is supposed to be much better, less fouling & easier to get accurate loads with. I haven't tried them yet but many of the guys here swear by them. They are longer than conventional weight bullets, so most guys drop to the next lowest weight in that caliber (ie, if you shoot 180gr, drop to 165gr 'TSX').

My favorite bullet, Accubond 2nd, there is no 3rd. Just like fredj says, make sure and get the "Triple Shock" kind, I couldn't make the regular X bullets work for me. Seating close to the lands is not necessary and often seating .05" + yields the best accuracy. Normal or less fouling than regular bullets. I have not noticed greater velocities than the Accubonds, in fact most of the time the Accubond is a little faster same load same gun.

I am coming around to the idea that terminal ballistics work better with the heavier calibers. For instance, a fast 270 win 140 gr TSX will go through a whitetail but the more explosive effect of the Accubond or Ballistic Tip might be better. But in the 338, the 225 gr TSX should be great. Last year I shot an Elk at 245 yards with a 300 win mag 180 gr TSX at 3150 fps MV and both shots went through. There was very little meat damage and the Elk only went 20 yards but it did take 2 shots. I'm swithching to 200 gr Accubonds with that 300 win mag but will stick to the 225 gr TSX with the 338 win mag.

However, everyone like to shoot those 3/8" groups and the TSX is the most accurate bullet in almost every rifle I reload for.
