What is the difference between these cases? I read in my Speer manual that the 416 Remington Magnum is based on the 8 mm Remington Magnum case, but isn't the 8 mm based on the 375? Why did Remington use 8 mm brass? Were they not making any 375 brass at the time? Just curious. H. C.

Henry, Remington based their 8mm RM design on the .375 H&H case, but removed a lot of body taper and used a sharper 25 degree shoulder. They then used this case for the .416 RM, keeping the blown-out body and 25 degree shoulder angle. They were in fact making both .375 H&H and 8mm RM brass and cartridges at that time. jim dodd ------------------
