Seem to be quite new and I can't find much info on them. Supposedly the series is double based with a "coating" that regulates burn rate.

Apparently the "coating" permeates the entire powder kernel. From the little I can find, it is similar to RL 17 (which appears to be a cat of a whole different stripe).

So, does anyone know anything about them??? In rifle powders they are:

2000-MR (medium rifle)
3000-LR (large rifle)
4000-MR (magnum rifle)

There's also a varmint powder, but I don't know the numerical designation.

What do you think?

I've never heard of it until you asked. Their website doesn't offer much.

The 2000 MR is now available at Grafs & Sons. I just ordered 2 pounds to work up some loads for my 338 Federal. The new Alliant guide lists some very impressive velocities using this powder. A 225 Fusion at 2625 fps.

Wish I could be helpful but Aliant powders have been almost extinct from my bench. Their website doesn't offer enough loading data and when I email them I either get no reply or an evasion of the question asked.

However, it's hard to live without RL-22!

I have had Reloader 17 pressure tested in the 06 with the following proj....200 gn nosler, 180 nosler , 180 ttsx and 180 e tip
velocities were real good, if any of you guys want the pressure data spread sheet e mail me

i cant seem to post the spread sheets here on AR, COLLINS was the only person who could do it, i have sent him a few e mails and pm s but have never been able to get a response after he posted my initial pressure data results

I shot them for the first time this past weekend.

MR 2000 in the 270 Win with 130 gr bullets gave only 2833 fps with max load that was supposed to be over 3,000.

But in the 300 Win Mag with MR 4000 and 200 gr Sierra BT, I started 5 grains under max and quit after only going up 2 gr as the primers were crated, and velocity was 2924 fps.

I think the MR 2000 is slower than anticipated, and the MR 4000 is "faster".

But the groups were great.

I tried the 300 Win Mag again yesterday with 180 gr bullets and 72 gr of MR 4000 and averaged 3011 fps.

Terry, are you pleased with those figures for the .300?

I assume that when you say "slower" and "faster"; you're referring to the expected fps and not burn rate.

There's also supposed to be an MR 3000. Any thoughts about it?

Yes, I am pleased with 3000+ fps, I have not been able to get any MR3000 yet.

I'm going to chrony some loads in the 338 Federal.

I already shot 180NBT and 210 NP with 50 gr of MR2000. The NBT felt very mild. The 210 didn't show pressure. It does fill the 338 case pretty full. I am going to chrony those loads this weekend as well as 53 for the NBT and 51.5 for the NP. These are compressed loads.

Alliant list 52-54 for the 200 gr and up to 52 for the 225. Those are compressed as well. I don't see how you can get 54 in the Federal case. 53 fills up the almost halfway up the neck. I seated the NBT out to 2.88 and the powder was compressed but not overly compressed. I don't think I would go above 53 for any load.
