I have a Rockchucker and I'm thinking of reloading for .375 H&H. Is there enough room in there to fit a case and bullet (ignoring my fat fingers)?

thanks

Yes, there's plenty of room for a .375 H&H.

I wouldn't say that there's plenty of room but it can be done - although in my opinion it is pain. I have found that the Redding Ultramag is a great tool when loading my longer bullets.

I hear that Lyman customer service is sorely lacking, but the Orange Crusher does have a 4.5 inch opening. One inch greater than the Rockchucker.

I load .378 WBY in mine, with little trouble.

The 375HH/416RM/458Lott length cartridges will fit in the rockchucker, but when preparing to seat the bullet you must set the bullet on top of the case, tilt the case and start the bullet into the bottom of the die, then slide the base of the cartridge into the shell holder. It's not hard at all.

I load for 416 RM, and I have no intention of replacing my 30 year old rockchucker.

If I knew I was going to the longer cartridges right off, and was buying my first press I would probably get the Redding magnum.

Yes, there is room, but you have to work awful hard to keep "fat" fingers out of the way. If you are looking for a new press to load long magnums, I would take a look @ the RCBS ammo master. It si designed for loading 50bmg, so plenty of room & leverage for big cases. When i started loading 45-120's I went to this press & really like it. Good luck!

I purchased a rockchucker and was very surprised to find that 300Rem Ultras loaded long will not fit. RCBS customer service was of no help (or care) but you can modify this press to give about 3/16"-1/4" more room very easily. Look at the bottom of the ram when it is at bdc and you will see the cast iron arm hit the ram thus stopping it on the downstroke. Turn a file sideways and cut a relief about 1/8" deep and it will allow the ram to go down a little further giving you more room. I see no mechanical compromise to this and it worked for me. If you did'nt already own one (as I) I would buy another make.

Puddle,
Your press will work just fine.
Don,
Instead of trying to tilt your cartridges and slide them into the shell holder try holding the bullet to be seated up inside the die with your finger and then placing the case in the shell holder upright, then just lower the bullet onto the case mouth. As long as you hold the bullet in side the die with one finger it will allow brass the full height of the opening of your press to slide in. 470 Mbogo

470Mbogo,

I've tried it both ways, mine works better for my big clumsy hands.

Thanks,
Don

i have the rockchucker and the 300 RUM. screw the seater die in the press to where it does not stick down through the press, then adjust the seating depth with the stem. have loaded the 220 sierra matchking this way with no problems.

Sure you can run the seating die up....but if you are going to square up the die properly to the press it has to protrude slightly below the threaded insert so that a machined washer has something to push against. I always like to square up a die to a press with all the slop in most threads but with the die that far up any misalignment would be magnified greatly...I would think
