I got away from hunting deer with my S&W 629 due to the muzzleblast and noise, but I dislocated my right shoulder and will probably be unable to shoot my muzzleoader. I have a very accurate load of 23.5g H-110 and 240 XTP's, but again it is a little too much of a good thing. My father's friend made me some cast 255g gas checked bullets. They measure .431-.432. I really like Unique in 45 Colt and 44 Special but cannot find a Unique load for this exact bullet weight. My gut tells me to start about 10.5 grains, maybe going up to 11.0 - I figure this should get me in the 1100-1200 fps range. Any advice or loading manuels that include the data I'm looking for would be appreciated. I have manuels from Lee, Hogden, and Nosler (no help).

Speer manual 250 gr.bullet says start w/9up to 11 vel 1029-1211.Dislocated my shoulder a year ago this week what a pain in the ass.Couldnt shoot a rifle for weeks but next to last day of deer season spotted a whitetail buck sneaking up the drive next to the barn.I shot him off the back porch resting the rifle on the log corner.w/regards

Not sure about Unique, as I have had bad accuracy with Unique and the 44 and 45. I like unique for 38's, and 357's.
around 19 grains of Alliant 2400 should get you were you want to be both accuracy wise and recoil wise. I use 20.5 grains of 2400 with a 250 grain bullet and get better acuracy than with H110 or W296. Recoil is not a bad at all, but this is out of a Super blackhawk with 7 1/2" bbl.

Thanks guys. Dislocating a shoulder sucks. I have done both now. Hopefully I can take the pistol out in a week or so...without popping the darn shoulder out again

Buckeye I like 18grs. of 2400 with a 255SWC use reg primer or mag primer a little more snap with Mag. primer this load is light and easy to shoot and is a tack driver with my mod. 29 ----- 8 3/8ths barrel Max load as per Elmer Keith 22grs. of 2400 with 255 this is not a whimp load hope I have helped Mag801

For a less than full power load try 9 to 10 grains of Unique. Should be plenty for deer.
For a little more power, but still less than full throttle try 20 to 21 grains of 2400.
These loads with cast bullets have been accurate in 4" and 6.5 inch bbl S&W's and in my 7.5" Super Blackhawk.

Try Green Dot...I shoot 7 grains of it with an RCBS 44-250-K cast bullet. It weighs in a around 262 grains and shoots at average 950 fps with the Green Dot load. Could probably go to 8 grains with no problem. 1.0-1.25 inch groups at 50 yards from my 'scoped SRH. Green Dot is a true sleeper in the 44 Magnum!!! Good-luck...BCB

Kilt a few dear w/a Super Blackhawk, the bullet u have, 24 gr IMR4227, WW cases. Good crimp as it is a full case.Longest at 155 yards and shortest at 40 yds. The long shot was badly placed took additional round. There were a number of 40 to 75 yd shots and no tracking reqd. Good luck or good shooting. The 44 semi wadcutter is sometimes called a "pre expanded" bullet. It works.

IMR 4227 is great w/cast bullets.
