Just bought a bunch of once fired 45 brass. A lot of it is Speer and seems to use a small pistol primer? Can you tell it's been a while since I reload for 45 ACP? Rusty We Band of Brothers! Well...anything can happen, I learn something new everyday (and every 45 ACP I've ever loaded used Large Pistol primers) but it seems some Speer NT (non toxic) brass does use the small primer.

The Winchester NT style ammo all uses small primers. All of the various Non-toxic loads, or clean burning factory laods have small primer pockets. Better to find them first then when trying to seat a primer. I throw them away.

Yep, special loaded brass. You can segregate & load them for matches where you leave your brass behind or resell or toss em. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

C'mon, guys! It's only 5 or 6 grains of very fast, easily ignited powder. Small pistol primers work just fine in the .45 ACP brass so sized for them. Why throw it away?

I expect the headache of keeping them separated while cleaning and priming would be a factor. Not to mention... if you load on a progressive machine you'll be dealing with 2 separate primer size setups.

Rusty, Earlier this year I was at the range and bumped into a friend who shoots bullseye matches. He was interested if I knew any one who had some of the small primer pocket brass. Some people on the Bullseye boards think they may be better for match loads. Haven’t run across any so haven’t done any testing. Well, I've got a bunch of primers and bullets, so the Hornady Pro-Jector and I are going to load 'em up! Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate.
