For a long time, I've reloaded 140 grs bullets w/ RL 22 for my Swede. Now as I've got some Norma MRP, which is at least very close to if not identical with RL 22, I am wondering if anybody has good recipes for that powder. I do not want to copy myRL 22 loads 1 : 1; thus it would be interesting to know the max/starting loads, all the more as norma.cc does not list this powder for 140 grainers. Any experiences or recipes out there?

If it was me , I would use my R22 load data for my rifle, drop the charge weight a bit and work up. Rather than asking others for their load.

I'll bet MRP will be prit near the same as R22

I think you are going about this a very hard way. I'd pretty much go with what GSP7 said.

I used MRP for years. When I could no longer get it I switched to RL22. The first batch I got was a grain or two hotter than MRP. The last two have matched up exactly with my MRP loads.

Start with your RL22 load back off a grain or two and work back up. That data will be far closer for your rifle than anything someone else would post.

I'm even more confused last I checked RL22 was around $17.99 and MRP was $20.99. If you have a good load with RL22 why pay $3/lb more to work up a new load with basically the same powder? I have not plans to switch back.

As usual just my $.02

The rumor that I have read from a pretty reliable source is that MRP and RL22 are the same powder just different lot numbers, What I was told is that Norma gets the lots that are the most consistent and Alliant gets the second run. So Norma tends to have less variation from lot to lot and RL22 varies more.

From what I have seen this tends to be true as the MRP that I have used seems pretty consistant. I have had R22 vary as much as 200 fps from one lot to the next.

First lot of RL22 I tried was hotter but nothing close to 200fps. The second and third lots were as close as I could measure within a few fps of my old MRP loads. Accuracy loads were basically the same. I simply bought a couple big jugs. They will last me 10+ years. If I'm still able to shoot I'll worry about it then.

Perhaps you got one of the recalled lots from a few years back -- but I'd even doubt that. I have burned lots of Re-22 and have noted extreme consistency from lot to lot.

If you are getting a 200 fps variance and it's not with a recalled batch, I'd suspect something other than the powder is amiss.

I actually did have some of the powder that was recalled and wound up firing a few rounds before learning of the situation. It was slightly faster -- maybe 35 fps in the 6.5x55 I was shooting at the time -- but nothing that elevated pressures to unsafe levels and probably nothing that would have been detected unless the shooter was meticulous about keeping records of data, etc.

Norma web site has 140gr Partition, Min 45gr MRP @2553fps, Max. 47.4 MRP @2690fps.
Hope this helps.
