It would be easier to do with TSX bullets since the pressure is a little less therefor you add a little more powder. Works that way in rifles. MY sierra manual shows 2700 for max varget loads with a 165 but you know all chambers are a little different.

With Hodgdon's published max loads of Varget in my 22" pre-64 M-70 FWT, I get just over 2,700 with 150's. 165's go just under 2,700. Accuracy is superb.
I suspect my rifle is a little slow, so I'll burn some RL-15 this winter in search of more velocity. But Varget's accuracy is so good that I'm unlikely to change.
2800fps with a 165 would be pretty hot....unless you have a 26" barrel. Re the barnes tsx.....I have found the opposite of being able to add more powder over other bullets. It's my opinion that barnes stated you might be able to add more powder over and above earlier BARNES BULLETS (the pre tsx's). I played with tsx's alot this spring and several calibers and all were faster than other brands of bullets with the same powder charge which means they are actually MAKING MORE PRESSURE. At least that's the way it worked for me. If you think you need more speed than the 308 get a 300 win mag....it can easily be loaded down to speeds of a 308.....yet can be right on the heels of the 300wby. It's probably one of THE MOST VERSATILE cartridges on the market today.

In my older Remington I can barely get 2600fps with a 165 grain Hornady and IMR4064.

I get right under 2700fps using 46gns (hogdon max) using 165 Hornady SSTs. It's very accurate in my rifle. capt david
