Cheaper Than Dirt in its August catalogue lists 2006 manufacture new Lake City .223 brass for $99.97 per 500. The item number is AMM-006

Does anyone have any experience with this stuff? It's a few cents a piece more than Remington or Winchester from Midway, but it's a lot less than the Lapua or Nosler.

What's it comparable too? Is it worth the money?

Thank you,

LWD

I'm not too sure about this stuff....LC brass might require removing the crimp from the primer pockets....the Win and Rem won't need this done.

Lake City ammo is typically good stuff.....but IMO not better than Remington or Winchester.....and for a few cents less It'd be Winchester for me!

Also CTD can be very high priced in shipping and it's not at all uncommon for them to have a different price when you order it.....

I have never used it new. I have used it in my AR once fired. Good brass. Mine had little less capacity than Remington. Don't know how much more I would pay over Remington. I believe it is made by Federal. I do know I would buy from Grafs before Cheaper.

http://www.grafs.com/cart If you want it save about 10% or a little more. $94.15 shipped and insured.

As usual just my $.02

Roll EyesVd has it sumed up pretty well. It really doesn't sound like a bargin.

If you go to a range you should be able to pick up a lot of once fired .223 brass just for the asking. I mean literally pick up as it's being fired just out of commercial boxes. Often for a modest gratuity the range guys will save it for you when you come next. I've gotten once fired 30-30 brass for $3.00/100. Wash it, deprime it,tumble it and sort if necessary.

One swat team use to save their .308 Fed match brass for me. The .223 cases are common once fired , on the ground. Just ask and bend down. Last week a young fella was fireing his .223 WSSM. He told me he didn't load and I should help myself. I now have 40 once fired cases. beer Just a suggested option. coffeeroger

Maybe Wideners will get some of the new Guat. brass again. Never loaded virgin brass.

$89.00-1000, I bought 3000pcs. It's real nice stuff for the money, very uniform in weight. Far nicer than Winnie,Rem.

Keep an eye on there website you won't be disapointed with it.

bartsche. We have guy's picking up Wolff 223 steel cases at my club and reloading it. We constantly have fellas at the pistol range sifting through the dirt mounds for lead, you'd think they were panning for gold. I see guy's looking through the grass at the 50 yard sight in bench at the rifle range looking also.

I'll bet you could'nt scrounge 20 rimfire cases either Eeker

I've seen reloaded steel Wolf cases as well. The same people were using 22LR empties as jackets for new .224 caliber bullets. Talk about cheap!!

I was actually pretty interested, but it takes a fair amount of work, and some tooling I don't have

For sure you won't find any tid bits at the club I belong to. I know there were complaints at the pistol range from shooters complaing about waiting on lead scroungers and the safetey issues.

I talked to a few guys picking up the Wolff steel 223 cases. They said it was boxer primed and worked fine, said they've reloaded it for years.

Thank you for the insight. This certainly doesn't seem like much of a deal all things considered.

Try this link for LC brass...

I have used LC brass in HP competition, and it has proven very durable, better IMO than W-W or R-P for longevity.
The softest brass has been Federal...stout loads brought on early brass retirement!

And I agree about Cheaper than Dirt shipping...usually way out of line! Plus sales tax for us Texans...

Never used .223 LC brass, but I have used a ton of LC in .308 and .30-06, whee it is my preferred brass. Bartsche is right though, you can get a lot of once fired LC brass on the ground at ye olde firing range. There's always lots of .223 where I shoot, PMC, WW, and LC.

I bought some Lake City .223 brass a couple of years ago, before the recent spike in prices, and paid something like $45.00/1,000 for once fired, cleaned, primer pocket reamed, sized and reprimed. At the time I figure that just having the primed cases was worth the cost of the primers. I've shot those cases in a couple of .223 I have using some stiff fast loads and everything has been great. I would guess that the capacity is a whisper less than the commercial stuff but the case walls seemed to be a little bit thicker. From what I've heard these cases are very consistent and last forever. Good luck.

Hey LWD, I believe the last 223Rem cases I got were from Brass Man Brass and were once fired Feds. He had a real deal on them back then and I'm pretty sure I ordered 1000 for $15. (It has been a good while Wink.)

Went through all of them, did a full Case-Perp and Weight Sorted them. I use mine in a M7 bolt action and they shoot just fine.

I'd say it depends on what kind of rifle you are using and what you intend to shoot with them. If it is a semi-auto for fun, I'd track down the cheapest once-fired and pocket-reamed military cases I could find.

If you are shooting Matches, then a bit more spent on the case is worth it. But you still need to do the complete case prep and weight sort routine.

If blasting varmints, non-competitive targets and plinking, anything will do and you should choose what ever level of case prep makes you confident in them.

Best of luck to you.

LC .223 brass from Cheaper than Dirt , was it new primed or new ? , or once fired ?.

I've used it for years ( Not the 2006 lot ) but late 90's early 2K stuff . Works well enough in my AR's . Mine was once fired and required pocket expansion or swaging them if you prefer . No big chore if you have the tool that is .

Roll EyesYesterday at the range I asked one of the range officers if he would collect some .223 brass and save it for me. His answer was that they get a lot of it and would pick out some good stuff 4 me. I doubt if he even will charge me.

Sometimes, guys , all U got 2 do is ask.

Yesterday 4 example I saw him pick up about 200 once fired, RP., .308 cases some A1 shooters were letting hit the ground sofaroger

Some are luckier than others . I've seen people picking up 22 for scrap !!. Man that and cutting live power lines for copper is pretty desperate !.

I doubt the LC brass would be crimped pockets if it's unprimed . That was why I was asking if it was new or used primed or not . Thanks .

I my self am good for several years on most everything .

Unless projectile, powder or primer GOOD deals come along then , I'm then always willing to part with coin of the realm !.

These people were $45/1000 delivered a couple years ago, and I was real happy with their processed LC.

Now they want $90/1000, becuase China is coming out of the stone age and wants Copper wire:
