Hey all, I am looking at refreshing my supply of AA hulls, and notice Winchester has a gray AA hull. Is it comparable to the old red hull? Am looking for some once fired hulls, about 1000, my old ones are about 15 yrs old and dont know if the gray hulls are as good as the red ones. Thoughts?? Also, anyone know a source of reasonable once fired AA hulls?? Thanks Eterry Good luck and good shooting. Yep grey is good. Some newer AAs in the last several years arent quiet as good as the old ones. Check for the sleeve cup inside at the base.

I've used AA hulls as 12 ga hunting loads and like the color variances as I can load the different colors with different loads....all the AA hulls I've used are dimensionally the same. All the AA hulls make a marvelous 1 3/8 Oz "baby magnum" load......and it works extremely well on pheasants. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I've had an affair with the AA hulls since the 70's. One of my favorite loads back then was a AA hull with 35 grains of 540MS and a WW red wad and 1 1/2 OZ of #6 for ducks and Pheasants. I still use the AA hulls for both 1 1/4 and the 1 1/2 loads even though WW has seen fit to drop the red wad as of late. Remington SR12 and RP12 will work just fine with WW571 and HS7 which are the same powder, and those powders are being dropped in favor of the Hodgdon longshot. Hell, I must be getting old.

Thanks guys, will look for some hulls and not worry bout the color. DFC, my first reloading affair began with federal gold medal paper hulls; the local general merchandise store kept them behind the counter next to the 30-30 shells and bull durham. I reloaded them so many times on a Lee Loader they would dribble powder from the holes burnt along the brass and even had a few where the paper hull left the barrel and the brass fell in my hand upon opening the action of my ithaca model 37. wow.....I didn't know anyone knew about that stuff....I used to take a bag and some papers on an elk hunt and smoke the damn things the entire trip.....like a camel straight....you smoked one and you didn't want another for a couple hours.....and a small bag lasted the entire hunt.....great stuff. I haven't smoked in 20 years now but mentioning them bought back old memories! Thanks... /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." GSP7, I recently read where Federal still loads the paper hull; its a money losing proposition but they do it out of tradition, so look for some and imagine walking up partidge with your parker s/s and a brace of brittanys. Vapodog, I grew up riding horses, watching westerns and reading Louis La'Amour. The idea of rolling your own was too much for me to ignore. A bag of Bull cost .25 and came with rolling papers. I was never good at rolling, but did my best to keep the tobacco in the paper!! The Bull was cut so fine it dribbled out and burned my shirt, a dire circumstance when my mom found out! Smoked them for years till I found out Marlboro's were much cooler. Am currently off cigarettes, but as Mark Twain said "To stop smoking is easy, I have done it a hundred times".
