Hi, I e-mailed Dillon asking them if they might consider making 30 carbune dies for the SDB someday. Their answer was (No, the 30 carbine requires more effort to resize than the SDB can handle.) Having not reloaded the 30 carbine yet, I was wondering what you folks thought of their response. Thanks avery53

30 carb doesn't require any more effort than does 38 or 357

Yeah, kinda what I thought. Thanks avery53

But the longer cartridge requires that effort over a longer span, for which the leverage of the SDB may not be adequate (the effective leverage of most presses varies with position within the stroke). Andy

I agree with Dillon here. Besides, the 30 carbine is a rifle cartridge by design possessing a much thicker case than the 357. Dillon's SDB press is a pistol cartride press by design. Let's not forget that case lube is suggested for the 30 carbine, even when one is using carbide dies. That's not necessarily so for other straight-walled pistol cartridges.

I use an RCBS Rockchucker press and the 30 carbine brass takes significantly more effort to resize than my 357 cases. I use carbide dies for both. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. I'd take Dillon's word for it. I used to have Mike Dillon as a neighbor, and it was just a few blocks from there over to his shop in the Scottsdale air park. The upshot of all that is that I got a fair few of his style and his operation. They always throughly tested everything they made and everything they even considered making. So, if they say the Sqare Deal won't stand up to the .30 carbine task over the average man's use, I'll betcha they know that from experience. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
