mlazarus458 with Varget
My search abilities have failed me. I'm looking for a load for 458 winchester magnum, using varget powder. Something on the mild side, as it's going to be generally a practice round. Thanks, Mike
Woodleigh lists loads with Varget for the 458 Win Mag: 400 gr, Start 74.0 2240; Max 77.0 2310; 500 gr. 70.0 2010; 74.0 2110. Both loads are for soft point expanding bonded core bullets.

jeffeossovarget is too slow -- h335, rel7, litt'l gun are the better powders for 458 and 500gr bullets

craigsterHodgdon has Varget load data for 400, 450, 500 gr bullets.

mlazarusThanks to all who responded. With respect to Hogdgon data, are there any caveats when loading the barnes tsx? My plan is to start on the low side and see where that takes me. Open to any advice.

Fury01With you loading as you indicated, and working up. Nothing special about tsx. Normal COAL will keep you well off the lands in a normal 458wm chamber.

wheleniteTSX wants to start at least 0.050" off the lands, to get a running start into the rifling. Varget is not particularly position sensitive, so you can go as low as 75% fill. Start at 55 or 60 grains and see what your velocity and accuracy are.
