I have just purchased some boxes of 450gr Woodleigh bullets and will be shooting them in my Remington 700 BDL Safari .416 Rem Mag. The powder I intend to use is Vihtavuori N150. I have had great succes with 80 grains of this powder behind the 400gr Hornady RN. But what would you suggest to use behind the 450gr Woodleigh? Tommy

What I generally do if there is no data for a certain bullet weight is look at the difference from the starting loads for a given powder for the previous two bullet weights and. eg; say Hypothetically the starting load for the 350 gr bullet was 85 gr of Powder X 400 gr bullet was 80 gr of Powder X I would make the 450 gr starting load 75 gr etc. Usually there is a pattern of sa y 4 or 5 grain decrease for a given powder for each 50 gr of bullet weight, so I just follow the pattern. I do not know how professional this is but it may give you a starting base.

PC: Thanks for your reply. I understand what you mean, but in my loading manual N 140 is listed for the 350gr bullet and N 150 for the 400gr bullet. So I have no idea about what to use for the 450gr... Are there really no one having a pet load for this bullet using Vihtavuori or Norma powders? I haven't been able to find any data so far, and would like to get an idea about where to start. Who have tried it?

Tommy, other than that I do not know I have never seen data for the 450 gr woodleigh. I feel you will be fine if you start 5 grains below the 400 gr bullet starting load and try that and work up to you begin to see pressure signs and then back off two grains. You will be the pioneer my friend

Tommy, Try contacting Woodleigh. They should be able to point you in the right direction. You might try a loading program such as Quickload. Another approach is to select the slowest powder listed for the 400 grain bullet and drop it 5% from the starting load. Do post your results, as I am sure they will be of interest. RobertD
